Job DescriptionWe have an opening for an RF Imaging Algorithms Postdoctoral Researcher to develop and implement algorithms to process signals obtained from a high-speed microwave imaging system currently under development. This work has potential applications in a variety of fields including high speed instrumentation, shockwaves, detonation fronts, explosives safety, explosives performance, explosives model validation, medical imaging, nondestructive evaluation, and inspection of additively manufactured materials. As the main algorithms researcher supporting this project you will have the opportunity to influence the development of a first-of-its-kind high-speed microwave imaging system. You will collaborate closely with a team of engineers and technicians who are designing and fielding prototype hardware. This project leverages the leading-edge computing facilities at LLNL as well as one-of-a-kind experimental facilities such as the High Explosives Applications Facility. This position is in the Computational Electromagnetics Group of the Computational Engineering Division (CED), within the Engineering Directorate.
In this role you will
Utilize and implement image reconstruction algorithms for microwave imaging of shockwaves, detonation fronts, and flaws embedded in materials.Participate in collaborative brainstorming with a team of engineers and technicians.Work independently to conduct literature reviews and write processing code to evaluate candidate electromagnetic reconstruction algorithms.Evaluate the interaction between image reconstruction algorithms and design changes to evolving prototype hardware.Collaborate with experimentalists to specify measurements for system evaluation.Publish results in technical reports and peer-reviewed journals.Perform other duties as assigned.Qualifications Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.PhD in computer science, electrical engineering, physics, or closely related field.Knowledge of and experience with Python, MATLAB, C++, or similar.Experience translating and implementing physics concepts in software.Ability to collaborate effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.Effective written and verbal communication skills.Ability to identify relevant concepts from the literature and communicate their impact and requirements to the project team.Ability to creatively adapt existing concepts to uniquely challenging temporal and spatial resolution constraints.
