Position Overview:

NYSTART (Systemic, Therapeutic, Assessment, Resources and Treatment) works collaboratively with the system of support to improve the lives of individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and co-existing behavioral health needs/mental health concerns.  This is done through increasing the community’s capacity to provide an integrated response as well as utilizing local, person-centered, positive, multidisciplinary, cost-effective and evidence-informed practices.  For additional information on START, please visit www.centerforstartservices.org.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

Provide the highest quality of care and support to all guests. Maintain effective, positive and quality operations at the Resource Center, in accordance with Center for START Services and FREE policies and procedures.Assist guests to achieve personal goals, work on behalf of guests to overcome barriers, respect guests’ personal beliefs, choices and interests and, promote community inclusion and acceptance.Provide appropriate assistance to promote health and wellness, communicate with medical professionals and record information regarding health events, conditions and status.Serves as a role model and mentor, demonstrating socially acceptable (desired) behaviors and coaching Resource Center guests to demonstrate same, using approved techniques and strategies.Attains and maintains required certification(s), including but not limited to: START module, Medication Administration Approved Personnel status, First Aid/CPR. Completes required initial and update trainings as determined by START and FREEAssist guests with ADL’s when necessary (eating, grooming, bathing, toileting and walking/maintaining stability).Administer medications in accordance with physician order and FREERender first aid/CPR and/or seek emergency medical care as needed.Use approved physical intervention techniques when necessary to protect guests.Completes all required documentation in a timely and professional manner.Acts in a professional manner and communicate effectively with others.Maintains and adheres to ethics of confidentiality, Center for START services and FREE policies and procedures.Performs other duties as assigned by the START Resource Center Program Manager.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Job Qualifications:

18 years of age or olderMinimum of a High School Diploma, Associates Degree preferred. The ideal candidate will have an expressed interest or experience in Psychology, Social Work or other Human Service related field. Valid driver’s license with no more than 8 pointsNo convictions for crimes that preclude a person from working with members of a vulnerable population. Excellent reading and writing skills to effectively complete START documentation requirements.

 

Physical Demands:

 

Ability to life at least 50 pounds or more Daily standing, bending and lifting Must be able to stand for at least 8 hours at a time
