Resident Engineer

Location: Romania

Reporting to the responsible Services Lead for Cloud in the DACH region, this is a highly technical role, providing implementation and operational support on-site and remotely for Juniper Network Products. 

The Resident Engineer will be required to develop and maintain an expertise on the products deployed within the customer’s network and provide mentoring on Juniper solutions.

This is a full-time remote position with regular traveling to customer location in Slovakia , working as part of a wider Juniper Customer Services team.

The candidate will need to demonstrate a proven track of experience in the Resident Engineering environment; This is a senior role, and the candidate must be able to work on his own, under live network environment pressure.

 

Responsibilities:

In the frame of the Operational & Technical support to the customer, the Resident Engineer will carry out activities in the following typical key areas: 

Design Validation and Verification testing Interoperability testing, multi-vendor Acceptance testing of new software releases Adaptation of test cases for automated testing Consulting services for new features and technologies Implementation support Knowledge Transfer to customer staff Troubleshooting/fault finding and supporting operations Operational assistance (customer NOC) Software Versioning Review Analyzing network configurations Assisting with network inventory tracking and management Testing Juniper Networks product features and functionality Providing regular updates on work in progress and current issues Developing network and equipment operating procedures Assisting in the ongoing definition of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the network and services Opening and helping drive Juniper TAC cases through to problem resolution.   Producing written summary reports of the status of equipment and network problems, plus pertinent technical documentation, as requested by the customer. Holding technology workshops with the customer to discuss equipment and network problems and provide the reasons for problems encountered and the workarounds and/or solutions that are being tried. Training the customer’s implementation and support personnel to configure and operate Juniper Networks products and best practices.  Assisting the customer to develop Network Operating and Equipment Operating Procedures. The RE may also need to develop secondary skills in other products in the Juniper portfolio. Serving as a central point of contact between the customer, Account Team,  Juniper Technical Assistance Centre (JTAC), Engineering, Product Line Management (PLM) and Customer Services. Being part of the customer’s operating team for maintenance windows, supporting software upgrades and migrations. Working on automation and developing scripts

 

 Minimum Qualifications: 

The ideal candidate for this role must be able to demonstrate the following credentials: 

Detailed technical experience in the testing, installation and operation of QFX, EX and MX series datacenter switching infrastructure. This expertise includes hands-on operation of management tools and network analyzers. The candidate must have experience with large DC deployments including EVPN-VXLAN, L3 CLOS DC architecture and Juniper virtual chassis. Detailed knowledge of routing protocols such as BGP and MPLS Knowledge of fabric orchestration and automation solution, specific knowledge of Apstra automated DC deployment is a further advantage. Working experience in configuring and using traffic generators such as IXIA and Spirent Script programming skills particularly Python  Knowledge of virtualized environment and deployment of VMs and containers on VmWare, OpenStack and Kubernetes environments  Strong Interpersonal skills. Ability to work as part of a team, with multiple departments within Juniper and with the host company in a responsible and professional fashion.  Expert level relationship management and communications skills to manage face-to-face communications on a daily basis with multiple levels of customer management and cross-functional engineering staff.  Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects and work productively under pressure.  Strong understanding and expert level knowledge about core routing, switching  and Service Provider Network design and Architecture. Self-starter, team player, personable, enthusiastic, hardworking, avid learner and enjoys interfacing with customers on a day-to-day basis. Able to apply knowledge to real-world scenarios.  Expertise and real-world experience working with JUNOS and Juniper Networks MX, SRX, EX and QFX devices. Strong troubleshooting skills and methodologies across a multi-vendor environment. Able to isolate and identify configuration, design, and software anomalies; can clearly articulate findings in written and verbal communications with development staff.  Strong organizational and time-management skills, uses time in forward-looking ways.   Ability to proactively support changes/activities in the customer environment and network, and effectively communicate the implications to Service Managers and Sales colleagues. Fluent speaking, reading and writing in English language.
