The KI Resident Assistant (RA) is responsible for fostering a cooperative and considerate educational community environment which contributes to the academic and personal growth and success of each student. This position provides lodging in lieu of pay for the first 15 hours of work.
Key job responsibilities include, but not limited to
Acts as a liaison between students and staff
Regularly available for students
Assists residents with problem solving or refers students to counseling resources
Mediates roommate conflicts as necessary
Works cooperatively with students to insure an environment that values individual differences and respects the rights of all students through open communication and appropriately confronts students with concerns and issues
Informs and educates students about their rights and responsibilities, KI policies and procedures and expectations of standards of conduct
Documents policy violations
Supports and encourage students in developing an active program of cultural, social, recreational and community activities
Orders supplies and determines need for maintenance, repairs and furnishings
Maintains household records and assigns rooms
Assists with check-in and checkout of residents
Facilitates group interaction and identity through event programming - Improves dorm atmosphere, program effectiveness, and interpersonal relations
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
1+ year(s) prior work experience with international students
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Must be able to serve as a positive role model and mentor to students
Excellent problem solving skills
Ability to work evenings and weekends and be regularly available for students
High energy level and proven ability to work with a diverse population
Tact, patience and diplomacy, particularly with non-native English speakers
Flexible and able to change plans according to circumstances
Must be authorized to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
One or more foreign language ability
