Job Title Research Specialist I - Analytical Chemistry Agency Prairie View A&M University Department Cooperative Agricultural Research Center Proposed Minimum Salary Commensurate Job Location Prairie View, Texas Job Type Staff Job Description We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Specialist in Analytical Chemistry to join our dynamic Research and Development team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, conducting, and analyzing complex experiments to support the development of new products, processes, and methodologies. This role requires a deep understanding of analytical techniques, problem-solving abilities, and the capability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funding. This position may pay more than the salary listed above depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. Responsibilities: + Design and execute experiments using analytical techniques like chromatography, spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry. Analyze and interpret complex data sets, providing recommendations based on results. + Maintain accurate records of experiments, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of data. + Oversee the maintenance, calibration, and operation of analytical instruments and equipment. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to analytical instrumentation to ensure optimal performance. + Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including chemists, biologists, and engineers, to achieve project goals. Present experimental findings, updates, and recommendations to stakeholders and senior management. + Prepare detailed reports, technical documents, and scientific papers to document research findings. Ensure compliance with university standards, regulations, and best practices within the laboratory. + Participates and assists in college-wide events, activities, committees and performs other duties as deemed necessary. Required Education and Experience: + Bachelor's Degree. + Four years of related experience. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: + Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Preferred Qualifications: + Master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, or a related field. + Four years of experience in an analytical chemistry role, preferably in a research setting. + Proven track record of developing and validating analytical methods. + Proficiency in chromatographic techniques (IC, HPLC, GC-MS) and spectroscopic methods (ICP-OES, TOC, CHNS, UV-Vis, IR, NMR). + Experience with data analysis software and laboratory information management systems (LIMS). + Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. + Strong written and verbal communication abilities. + Ability to work independently and as part of a team. + Experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech, or chemical industry. + Familiarity with working following SOPs. + Knowledge of statistical methods and software for data analysis. Other Requirements: + Ability to lift moderately heavy objects. + Ability to exert heavy force. + Work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends.
