Essential DutiesResponsibilities Responsible for the design, execution, and interpretation of cell, molecular biology, and biochemical experiments, including cell-based assay development to characterize therapeutics that prevent aggregation of misfolded proteins in neurodegeneration. Compare and validate compounds made at Neurophage with other compounds developed by other companies. Establish various cell-based assays which focus on the cell-to-cell transmission and toxicity of misfolded proteins Develop assays to study microglial clearance of amyloids. Work with human brain tissue in biochemical assays to study Alzheimers disease. Plan and interpret studies which are carried out by the Biochemical Research and Preclinical Research groups. Conduct research to develop methodologies, instrumentation, and procedures for medical application, analyzing data, and presenting findings. Participate in all aspects of manuscript writing and report writing. SkillsKnowledgeExperience PhD or foreign equivalent degree in Biomedical Sciences, Neuroscience or related field, plus five 5 years of progressively responsible research experience in neurodegenerative diseases including in cell culture, biochemistry, cell and molecular biology. This research must include the following areas DNARNA isolation, 1D, 2D SDS-PAGE, immunoblotting, immunoprecipitation, ultracentrifugation, proteomics, protein purification, molecular cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, transfection in mammalian cell lines and primary neurons, flow cytometry, ELISA, immunocytochemistry, immunohistochemistry, antibody-conjugation. Experience must also include the following may be gained concurrently 5 years of experience in microscopy and image analysis such as ImageJ. 2 years of experience in primary neuronal culture. 2 years of experience in cell-based assay development for drug discovery.
