Research Engineer - Virtual Vehicle Development

Engineering complex electrified propulsion systems in today’s competitive market requires sophisticated model-based development methodologies that can help deliver optimized products quickly and efficiently. There is a critical need to explore and identify high leverage system opportunities for improving customer  experience and value of our electrified vehicle products. Candidates for consideration will focus on developing & advancing state-of-the-art simulation models and computational frameworks for Electrified and Connected Vehicles in a research environment. The engineer will work with a variety of Ford teams to build and integrate plant and control models into advanced SIL simulations; conduct desktop simulations for software build and test; correlate operation with prototype hardware; analyze operation of the simulated full vehicle system  to identify high leverage opportunities for Ford customers; increase simulation efficiency & throughput by employing software automation & high-performance computing; and perform other relevant tasks as required.     

 

You'll have…

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Automotive or Computer Engineering 3+ years of experience working with automotive electrified propulsion systems and controls with fundamental knowledge of electric machines, batteries, mechatronics, and thermal & hydraulic systems. 3+ years of experience  in mechatronic simulation, embedded controls design, requirements definition, design verification & validation 3+ years of experience with Matlab / Simulink / Stateflow 3+ years of programming experience (C, Matlab m-script) 3+ years of version control and automation (GitHub or similar) 3+ years of experience with CAN networks and tools (CANalyzer, CANape, ATI Vision, etc.)

Even better, you may have…

Master’s or PhD Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Automotive or Computer Engineering 5+ years of experience in working with embedded controls in electrified vehicle systems Cloud based computing (GCP, AWS, or HPC) Strong understanding of systems engineering principles & SysML Experience with tools for automation (DevOps) Hands on experience with hardware in loop systems, and prototype vehicles Physical plant modeling experience (GT Suite, AmeSim, SimScape, Dymola) Excellent organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills Initiative, resilience, a strong work ethic and a desire for continuous learning

What you'll do…

Build and validate SIL models of electrified vehicle control systems Configure subsystem plant & control models, interfaces, and simulation tools to create full vehicle SIL models that function as virtual vehicles for intended use cases Develop tests, analyses, and debug methods for SIL simulation systems to assess and ensure the virtual vehicles exhibit the intended functional operations Develop state-of-the-art cloud-based simulation build and test solutions, utilizing High Performance Compute and cloud environments Perform vehicle level cross-attribute systems analysis covering energy management, drivability, emissions and passenger comfort Perform competitive analyses and maintain knowledge of emerging technologies in the areas of simulation, continuous integration and virtual validation & verification Help develop physical plant models of vehicle components and subsystems in various levels of fidelity
