Research & Development Technician

**Job Description:**
**Summary:**
ITW Hartness is looking for an individual to work in our R&D Prototype shop who has a background in machining and assembly. The R&D Technician will need to run a mill, lathe, saw, grinder, and drill press to meet prototype shop or production requirements for parts needed daily. This individual will build, test, and troubleshoot prototype machinery. They may also assist with field service support and interface with customers as needed.
**Primary Responsibilities:**
+ Diagnose and troubleshoot packaging equipment
+ Work closely with the R&D engineering team
+ Design, fabricate, build, and evaluate prototype projects and test fixtures
+ Assist with Field Service
+ QDR manufacturing support
+ Machine production parts as needed
+ Other duties as assigned
**Qualifications**
Job Requirements:
+ Associates degree in related field or 4 years of experience
+ Strong understanding of equipment functions
+ Basic mechanical and pneumatic knowledge
+ Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
+ Strong understanding of welding and machining processes and methods
+ Ability to assemble (mechanical and electrical) and test prototype equipment with little or no guidance
+ Ability to complete machine diagnostics
+ Basic understanding interpreting 2D line layouts and 3D machine models
+ Ability to work well within a team environment to produce quality materials for our production and manufacturing teams
+ Strong communication skills
+ Proven understanding of shop/equipment safety rules
+ Previous experience with troubleshooting and repairing Hartness (or similar) equipment
+ Able to demonstrate organizational and time management skills, flexibility, sense of urgency, attention to detail, project management ability, and professionalism
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Machine shop experience to include fabricating and prototype design and setups for testing
+ Experience wiring and troubleshooting electrical schematics
+ Experience with Mig & Tig welding
