The Mechanical Engineer 2 will plan and execute development studies for development of new products
or support of a current project. The Mechanical Engineer 2 plans and conducts design/development
engineering assignments generally involving projects of medium magnitude and scope, estimates
human resource needs and schedules work to meet completion dates and technical specifications and
may coordinate and direct Engineers, Designers and Technicians assigned to projects. This individual
will be involved with developing proposals and cost estimates, evaluating progress and results and
recommending major changes in procedures or objectives. S/he will focus on design/development
engineering assignments focused on mechanical systems, subsystems and components used in
medical devices.
Under limited supervision, general direction, etc. and in accordance with all applicable government
laws, regulations and ASP policies, procedures and guidelines, this position:
• Requires and applies broad knowledge in the mechanical design specialty area and good
knowledge of principles and practices of related specialties in the development and improvement of
new or existing products and associated processes.
• Plans and conducts design and development engineering assignments involving projects of medium
magnitude and scope.
• Estimates resource needs.
• Technically supervises or coordinates the work of Engineers and Technicians and others who assist in
specific assignments.
• Delivers electrical designs from concept, to requirements, to design, to verification and validation, and to
design transfer.
• Generates system or subsystem requirements.
• Generates mechanical drawings and 3D models.
• Specifies mechanical components and hardware.
• Evaluates progress and results against goals and objectives.
• Provides technical training and guidance to key stakeholders.
• Generates and executes test protocols.
• Generates written reports.
• Maintains accurate documentation of concepts, designs, drawings, processes, test methods, data analysis
and conclusions or rationales.
• Performs Failure Analyses and Investigation reports.
• Works out proposals and cost estimates of project related costs.
• Responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management level
• Performs other duties assigned as needed
