Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Data Associate.
The Food, Culture, & Tech Lab (directed by Dr. Omni Cassidy) is seeking a highly engaged, enthusiastic, passionate, focused, and eager candidate for Research Data Associate position within the Section on Health Choice, Policy, and Evaluation in the Department of Population Health. The Food, Culture, and & Tech Lab is a growing research program that focuses on exploring how food and beverage companies use advanced technologies to market unhealthy products to communities of color, and importantly, how to leverage technologies to improve the food environment and equip communities to navigate unhealthy food environments. Current proposed research will explore ways to leverage advanced digital technologies to develop, improve, and inform novel interventions to address behavior change, shift cultural narratives about food and food sovereignty, and promote equitable food environments. We have a strong focus on generating research that has the potential to inform policies at the local, state, or federal levels. Ultimately, our goal is to promote food environments that nourish people and the planet.
Under the direction of the Lab Director, the Research Data Associate will primarily be responsible for assisting with the execution of research projects and administrative tasks. These tasks will include, but will not be limited to recruitment, data collection, quality improvement activities (e.g., tracking and monitoring study progress), data entry and cleaning, and other data-related tasks.
The Research Data Associate will be a critical member of the study team and will also work closely with the team to contribute to monitoring and compiling emerging research; conduct literature reviews and scans; participate in team meetings; and supporting the evolving mission and goals of the lab. The Research Data Associate will also work with the team to support and collaborate with colleagues across the Section and Department. The position is ideal for a recent graduate with a strong interest in public health.
Job Responsibilities:
Research Project Planning: Supports the development of project materials including surveys, evaluation tools, handouts, flyers, and other materials. Responsible for conducting and monitoring study, noting deviations from protocol, and suggesting changes and additions as research develops.Recruitment & Data Collection: Conduct recruitment and screening of study populations. Conduct data management activities, this includes tracking data collected, entering, and cleaning data, and maintaining databases. Coordinate and track/schedule visits. Assist with gathering and coding data.
Writing and Research: Monitors, compiles, and reviews the latest findings in scientific literature and writes summaries to answer data- and research-related questions. Conducts searches, prepares overviews and presents results.
Research Compliance: Drafts, updates, and submits study documents required by the Institutional Review Board (IRB), sponsored program office, funding agencies, and any other appropriate data or research documentation. Research Team Organization: Collaborates internally and/or externally to plan content of regularly held team meetings. Takes accurate study notes at meetings, and monitors and updates studies tracking systems. Assesses team members needs and mobilizes resources to keep team on track.
Communication: Assists with preparation and development of research proposals. Interacts with a range of people at the School of Medicine and partner organizations
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Associate's degree plus one year related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Computer literate with good interpersonal, writing and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in public health, public policy or related social science/research field, with at least six months relevant work experience (can include experiences within a school/training program through internships, clerkships, work-study, etc.).
Recognize and identify problems, appropriately escalate issues to supervisor as needed.
Computer literate with great interpersonal, writing, and verbal communication skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office software applications.
Demonstrated ability to organize complex tasks and meet deadlines.
Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
Time management skills and ability to work well under pressure.
Responds to requests in a timely manner, gives and receives correct information, encourages required dialog and follow through.
Demonstrated ability to learn and train on the job.
A passion for population health research and data.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $51,243.96 - $54,060.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
