This position is responsible for coordinating an ongoing portfolio of research projects in the Lee Computational Ophthalmology Lab. This includes project startup such as regulatory activities, along with implementation of study protocol and close out actions, and administrative duties related to the research projects all while adhering to University and sponsor guidelines. The Lee Lab works with state-of-the-art ophthalmic imaging technology and designs research studies using advanced technological systems. We seek a research coordinator with a high technical aptitude and willingness to learn about and engage in cutting edge research projects involving the relationship between the eye and brain. In addition, the individual in this position will work with the Offices of Human Subjects, Compliance, Sponsored Projects and others as necessary to get all the required approvals prior to submission. The incumbent will also assist in preparing reports to the funding agencies and serve as liaison to external vendors and perform other related duties as needed. Under the supervision of the principal investigators and in collaboration with the research manager, the incumbent will follow research protocols to obtain data through interviewing subjects/patients, conducting on-site assessments, operating ophthalmic imaging equipment, consulting with physicians and reviewing medical records, coordinating patient participation in ophthalmology studies and compiling and verifying the accuracy of research data. The research coordinator must be composed, professional, patient and compassionate with the older research study population. **Job Duties:** **Research Coordination (70%)** • Recruit, interview and screen potential subjects and determine eligibility according to established criteria. • Obtain consent and enroll participants in research studies related to ophthalmology. • Conduct research study visits according to protocol at the Karalis Johnson Retina Center at South Lake Union campus. • Coordinate specialized tasks with the medical team such as venipuncture and operation of electronic monitoring equipment, processing of laboratory specimens, administration of treatment and/or medication in accordance with research protocol, assessment of patient reaction to medications and/or treatments as part of a research protocol and identification of potential adverse reactions. • Operate non-invasive eye imaging equipment and collect data according to specified data collection protocols. • Assist with conducting research visits in the field. • Update databases using RED Cap with patient information using best practices in data entry. • Responsible for the collection, processing, and shipping of study-specific laboratory specimens. • Maintain all associated files. • Preparation of regulatory materials for Institutional Review Board, Human Subjects Review Board, or sponsor review. • Assist in establishing and maintaining contact with community agencies, health care providers and/or study sponsors; inform sponsors of status; refer participants to community service agencies as appropriate. • Assist in preparation of sponsor reports. • Assist in preparation of research proposals, including preparing tables or figures, formatting, or editing. **Research Data Management (10%)** • Design & update data collection tools. • Manage electronic transfer of data. • Communicate with pharmaceutical and equipment company medical personnel in handling results of studies (progress reports, case report forms). **Administrative Duties (10%)** • Provide backup support to answer telephones; resolve problems and respond to inquiries regarding basic clinical laboratory procedures and services; receive and refer visitors; interact with medical staff. • Assist in the preparation, compilation, and coordination of reports and records such as purchasing, inventory, personnel, scheduling, registration and testing **Other Duties as Assigned (10%)** **MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS** • Bachelor's degree in health management, biological/social sciences, social work or related fields. • 2 years working on research projects involving human subjects. • Ability to learn ophthalmic imaging protocols and become certified to operate ophthalmic equipment within 90 days of hire (training provided). • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. • Experience with or familiarity with data entry into databases (ex: REDCap). • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask, organize and prioritize multiple projects. • Ability to work independently and in a group under limited direction. • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal and communication skills. • Highly motivated and flexible, with the ability to adjust to rapidly changing priorities and new projects. • The equipment for the in-home visits will require being able to carry/lift testing equipment that weighs approximately 50lbs. **DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS** • Advanced and applied knowledge of research methodology and data collection modalities relevant to the project (e.g., medical record review, interviewing, participant assessment, recruitment and retention) • Background working in ophthalmology or eye clinics and experience conducting exams using OCT/OCTA machines. • Experience recruiting & consenting by telephone. • Training and/or knowledge in ethical conduct of research with human subjects. **Application Process:** The application process for UW positions may include completion of a variety of online assessments to obtain additional information that will be used in the evaluation process.
