UW faculty and staff also enjoy outstanding benefits, professional growth opportunities and unique resources in an environment noted for diversity, intellectual excitement, artistic pursuits, and natural beauty. **The Department of Medicine: Allergy and Infectious Diseases has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Consultant to join their team.** **POSITION PURPOSE** The Research Consultant will provide overall oversight and data management and analysis services for studies undertaken in the PHSKC Sexual Health Clinic (SHC), including projects focused on STI and HIV diagnosis, treatment and prevention; studies related to STI microbiology; and studies of interventions designed to improve STI care. The position will also include significant work managing institutional review board applications and reporting. Current projects include an NIH-funded study evaluating a Treponema pallidum transcription mediated amplification (TMA) assay for syphilis screening, studies of the microbiome, a discrete choice experiment, and a study evaluating a new treatment regimen for syphilis. Ongoing studies in the SHC change over time and we anticipate that the consultant will support new studies as they start and as other studies end. This position is essential in leading the development and implementation of a spectrum of studies, including study subject recruitment, data collection and management processes for research, and program performance evaluation. The work includes working with study coordinators and investigators to define study implementation processes and develop IRB applications, helping to design and revise data collection tools, conducting data analysis, and report writing for internal and external partners. This position ensures that the functional, technical, and operational evaluation protocols for data collection and analysis are appropriately identified, implemented, maintained, and enhanced. The consultant will also be responsible for managing multiple data sets, developing data summaries and reports, and improving data management practices, processes, and tools. **POSITION COMPLEXITIES** This position requires a high degree of autonomy, personal initiative, discretion, and flexibility to develop new study implementation and data collection procedures, manage datasets, develop reports, and oversee QI procedures. The employee in this position must possess knowledge and understanding of the complexities of study implementation, assessment, evaluation, and QI processes. Position complexities include helping to coordinate multiple ongoing studies, utilization of multiple data sources, working with staff from a variety of studies, epidemiologists affiliated with the HIV/STI/HCV epidemiology group at Public Health - Seattle & King County, investigators, and clinical faculty. This position will report to the PI (Dr. Matthew Golden) and will work extensively with other researchers, clinical faculty, and key staff to optimize research and program goals. **POSITION DIMENSIONS AND IMPACT TO THE UNIVERSITY** The UW is strongly committed to developing and expanding partnerships and training in STI and HIV prevention, and to advancing research in these areas. The Division of Allergy and Infectious Disease, headed by Anna Wald, MD, MPH is one of the premier centers for biomedical, behavioral, and public health research in STI and HIV. **DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** Oversight of Research Studies (40%) + Provide oversight of a portfolio of ongoing and proposed research studies. + Collaborate with study coordinators to develop, refine, and implement study protocols and procedures. + Lead the preparation and submission of IRB applications, modifications, and renewals; serve as the primary liaison with IRB offices. + Conduct comprehensive evaluations of research proposals to determine feasibility and resource allocation. + Supervise and mentor study coordinators, providing guidance on study implementation, regulatory compliance, and problem-solving. + Support participant recruitment strategies and manage study enrollment progress. + Oversee and manage participant compensation across multiple studies, ensuring adherence to institutional policies.Data Management (20%) + Oversee data quality and lead data cleaning efforts across multiple complex data sets using statistical software and custom databases. + Develop and maintain comprehensive data dictionaries and standardized data collection instruments. + Ensure accuracy and integrity of data through routine quality control measures and audits. + Manage regulatory documentation, including data use agreements, IRB approvals, and human subjects protection protocols. + Serve as a key resource for data-related inquiries, providing timely, accurate responses to PIs, research staff, funders, and external partners. + Ensure strict compliance with data security and confidentiality policies set by the institution.Data Analysis and Evaluation (20%) + Collaborate with PIs and research teams to assess research goals and milestones, offering expert input on achievable timelines. + Develop statistical analysis plans and conduct statistical analyses using appropriate methodologies. + Generate high-quality reports, tables, figures, and data visualizations for research presentations and publications. + Make substantial contributions to the writing and editing of manuscripts, presentations, and technical reports, with a focus on methods, data interpretation and data visualization.Database Development and Management (10%) + Design user-friendly data collection systems using platforms such as REDCap. + Develop and program standardized reports and automated data summaries for ongoing studies. + Ensure databases are optimized for efficient data entry and retrieval.Preparation of Study Findings for Dissemination (5%) + Draft comprehensive reports detailing study methods, data analysis procedures, and findings. + Review and provide critical feedback on draft manuscripts and conference abstracts for research conducted within the SHC. + Assist in preparing presentations for academic conferences and sponsor meetings.External Partner Collaboration (5%) + Maintain regular communication with external partners, including funding agencies, research collaborators, and partner institutions. + Facilitate data sharing and analysis discussions across multi-institutional teams to ensure project alignment and progress. **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS** + Master's Degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or a related field. Equivalent experience can substitute for degree requirement. At least one year of experience **Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.** **ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS** + Database creation and management. + Experience with REDCap, SQL, relational databases. + Experience with data analysis, reporting tools, and data visualization. + Excellent communication, organization, problem-solving, and analytical skills. + Experience with study coordination + Experience conducting data analysis using R, SAS, and/or Stata **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS** + Prior research, clinical or other professional experience with HIV/STD. + Prior research, clinical or other professional experience with public health surveillance data or medical records data. + Experience collaborating with and contributing to a research team. + Research specific training in Protection of Human Research Subjects. + Self-starter and able to work independently with minimal supervision. + Experience with writing scientific manuscripts, grant applications, or technical reports. + Experience with study recruitment **CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT** + Must be able to communicate study information clearly to clinicians, nursing, support staff and patients. + This position may be stressful at times in that there is pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks concurrently. + Hybrid position with on-site work in a shared office. + Generally, working hours are Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm. **Application Process:** The application process may include completion of a variety of online assessments to obtain additional information that will be used in the evaluation process.
