Research Associate in Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Virginia (UVA) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work in the Analytical Neurochemistry Lab of Prof. Jill Venton.  We are seeking candidates to work on an NIH RO1-funded project involving designing new microelectrodes for measuring neurotransmitters.

The Venton Lab designs new techniques for measuring real-time changes in neurotransmitters.  This project, in conjunction with Oak Ridge National Lab, will involve the design of microelectromechanical (MEMS) devices for implantation into the brain.  The Postdoc will help design and fabricate new electrode designs, and test them using electrochemistry and surface techniques.  Methods will be used such as 3D printing and nanofabrication.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have a PhD in Chemistry or a related field such as Engineering by the start date.  Experience in electrochemistry and design of microdevices is preferred.  Much of the fabrication of the designs with take place at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in Oak Ridge, TN.  Thus, candidates must qualify to gain credentials to ORNL, must have a driver’s license and be willing to drive to ORNL, and should be willing to travel to ORNL 1-2 weeks a month.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Apply online at  https://uva.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/UVAJobs and attach a cover letter, a detailed curriculum vitae, and the contact information for three individuals who can provide professional reference letters.
