4 or more years of hands-on lab experience involving molecular biology techniques, such as molecular cloning, PCR, DNA/RNA extraction, protein purification, and cell/tissue culturing microbiology or other related techniques. Advanced education may count towards years of experience.
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field is preferred.
+ Master's degree is preferred.
+ Experience in laboratory automation, including the development of high-throughput workflows for protein construction, culturing, purification, and validation is strongly desired.
+ Experience with microbiology and molecular techniques in various microbes.
+ Computational skills, including basic understanding of programming languages for developing and optimizing automation scripts.
+ Skills related to biosensor discovery, characterization, and optimization, including plasmid design, directed evolution, and flow cytometry/FACS.
+ Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, with experience in training staff and mentoring students.
+ Proven track record of contributing to grant and paper writing and external funding efforts.
+ Ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently, and maintain high standards of data integrity in a fast-paced environment.
Additional Information:This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.

Job Function:Research Position Description:
The Silver lab is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Research Assistant to join our innovative team. We are looking for a collaborative, impact-focused problem solver who wants to be part of a dynamic team dedicated to creating and commercializing novel approaches to global challenges in sustainability and beyond. This position will allow the opportunity to explore your scientific interests and apply your knowledge to tackle ambitious projects in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial-minded environment with resources and support from top-notch scientific, operations, and administrative professionals. The ideal candidate will enjoy working within a highly motivated, diverse team, and leverage their expertise to create innovations that can change the world. In this role, you will be part of a team that develops cutting-edge biosensor technology and contribute to various sustainability-related projects. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will ensure high standards of research and innovation, maintain accurate records, and contribute to research reports and publications.
The candidate should be able to independently conduct and analyze their research with minimal guidance. This position reports to the Principal Scientist and will receive technical guidance from Senior Scientists. Responsibilities will include (1) making intellectual contributions to a range of projects in genetic circuit design in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, protein function design, including the design of potential therapeutics; (2) training lab members in DNA and protein engineering, library development, automation and screening; (3) managing collaborations with internal and external collaborators, e.g. the science staff at the Wyss Institute and research partners at the J. Craig Venter Institute in San Diego; (4 ) reporting on research outcomes in a variety of settings, including group meeting, conferences and in scientific manuscripts. Close collaboration with lab members and staff from both Systems Biology and the Wyss Institute is critical to these efforts.
