Position Purpose: Wayne State University Lipidomic Core Facility is seeking qualified candidates for a Research Assistant position to work on sample preparation for Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometric analyses as well as to perform LC-MS (Liquid Chromatography - Mass Spectrometry) analyses of lipids. Essential Functions: Prepare samples (plasma, tissue homogenates, urine, etc.) for LC-MS (Liquid Chromatography - Mass Spectrometry) analysis. Develop purification protocols and extract lipids and their metabolites from biological samples and prepare them for HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography). Develop HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) methods for the analyses of lipids and metabolites using internal/external standard quantitation methods. Maintain and operate LC-MS (Liquid Chromatography - Mass Spectrometry) systems. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree BS or MS degree with emphasis in organic chemistry is required. Experience: Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience). While on the job training is available for entry level position, candidates with working knowledge and experience in lipid extraction from biological samples using solid phase or liquid-liquid methods and in the operation of LC-MS systems are preferable. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Bioanalytical laboratory techniques such as tissue homogenization, protein measurement, biospecimen handling, Mass spectrometry, quantitative laboratory sample handling, and software utilization for biochemical data analysis.
