Render Farm Tech Lead
Job Description An Insight Global client in the entertainment and production industry is looking to add a Render Farm Tech Lead to their team. This role involves managing two render wranglers, with plans to expand the team to four. The Tech Lead will report directly to the Chief Innovation Officer. The focus of this role will be to increase capabilities and capacity, expand cloud rendering, and shape the render farm environment for the organization. Currently, the organization is self-built with minimal cloud functionality and has an environment of over 1,000 nodes. Current Technology: Deadline: used for data exchange and job scheduling DCCs: Maya, Houdini, Nuke Key Responsibilities: Manage and mentor a team of render wranglers, providing technical guidance and workflow optimization Establish best practices and protocols for render farm operations and job prioritization Oversee the management of large-scale render farm infrastructure across multiple data centers Develop and implement automation solutions to streamline rendering workflows Monitor system performance and optimize resource allocation for maximum efficiency Troubleshoot complex rendering issues across various DCCs (Maya, Houdini, Nuke) Collaborate with pipeline TDs to improve render submission and job management tools Implement disaster recovery and failover solutions Coordinate with production to manage render priorities during high-pressure delivery periods Lead training sessions for render wranglers and artists on render farm usage This role is pivotal in enhancing the organizations rendering capabilities and ensuring efficient and effective render farm operations. $80,000r to $140,000 - Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education. Skills and Requirements 5+ years of experience managing large-scale render farms (1000+ nodes) Strong Windows/Linux/Unix administration skills Ability to configure nodes and render queue Environment is heavier on windows and looking to infuse more linux Proficiency in Python, Shell scripting, and Database systems (SQL or non-SQL) Ability to create a render API key Experience with job scheduling systems (Deadline, Tractor, or similar) Understanding of compute and storage infrastructure Knowledge of containerization and virtualization technologies Experience troubleshooting complex rendering issues across various DCCs (Maya, Houdini, Nuke) Ensuring proper categorization Understanding proper inputs, outputs, and spearheading clean up Experience working for an entertainment/film company Team leadership experience in a technical environment Experience with cloud rendering solutions (AWS, GCP, Azure) Familiarity with modern VFX pipelines and workflows Knowledge of render engines (Arnold, V-Ray, RenderMan) Experience with monitoring tools (Grafana, Prometheus) Background in high-performance computing Previous experience in a VFX production environment null We are a company committed to creating diverse and inclusive environments where people can bring their full, authentic selves to work every day.
