Reliability Engineer (G&P Engineer)

POSITION SUMMARY: The Reliability Engineer position will support MPLX’s Gathering and Processing (G&P). Individual shall provide machinery and reliability engineering expertise and partner with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Projects in sustaining and enhancing the reliability and integrity of rotating equipment for a safe, compliant, reliable, and cost efficient operation. This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency, and skill level. The actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: + Provide technical support and troubleshooting for major equipment including reciprocating engines, gas turbines, reciprocating compressors, centrifugal compressors, screw compressors, turbo expanders, centrifugal pumps, positive displacement pumps, as well as ancillary equipment. + Perform engine and compressor modeling to improve reliability and efficiency. + Perform piping and rotating equipment vibration analysis and develop corrective actions. + Support development of remote performance and condition monitoring, and optimization of equipment. + Act as rotating equipment subject matter expert. + Lead rotating equipment root cause investigations. + Lead reliability improvement projects carrying on the recommendations through completion and verifications. Coordinate with Planning and Scheduling on creation of associated work orders as appropriate. + Write applicable guidelines for reliability improvements and deploy them across the operation. + Provide technical reviews, advance technology and tools utilization, and establish technical specifications for new and modified equipment. + Lead asset health and bad actor reviews, working closely with Reliability Analysts, engaging with cross functional teams and outside specialized support to determine needs, assess risk, provide direction, and bring closure on reliability issues. + Establish and optimize preventive and predictive maintenance programs using best practices and applicable reliability engineering tools and techniques. + Build close relationships with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Project groups and act as a subject matter expert in improving equipment reliability. + Support inventory optimization and spare parts optimization efforts. + Collaboratively advance digital technology application on critical equipment. + Collaborate as a strong team player, working effectively, cooperatively, and sharing knowledge and skill with others. + Work closely with Reliability Technicians on troubleshooting and analysis of equipment condition and performance. + Analyze impacts to safety, reliability, environment, personnel, and business economics when making recommendations and decisions. + Work independently with remote and minimal supervision, self-starting and proactive, and has strong organizational skills. + Travel expected 25-50% based on business needs. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: + BS degree in Engineering from accredited college or university. Mechanical Engineering preferred. + Excellent verbal and written communication skills. + Ability to write clear and concise technical reports and other various types of documentation in an accurate and timely manner. Strong documentation skills. + Ability to lead efforts and facilitate alignment meetings and make technical and business decisions. + Strong knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office applications. + Ability to organize and manage multiple competing priorities according to deadlines. + Ability to shift focus and comfortably cope with change. + Strong analytical skills. + Ability to work in both a collaborative team and individual environment. + Ability to remotely support multiple sites within G&P. + Prioritizes safety. + Must hold a valid driver license, pass a drug test, and pass a background check. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: + In depth knowledge of reciprocating engines, gas turbines, reciprocating compressors, centrifugal compressors, screw compressors, turbo expanders, centrifugal pumps, and positive displacement pumps. + Understanding of vibration analysis and mitigation strategies. + Vibration and lubrication certification. + Demonstrated understanding in the application and use of Reliability tools and analytical processes, including but not limited to Root Cause Failure Analysis, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Reliability modeling and prediction, Fault Tree Analysis, Weibull Analysis, Six Sigma, Life Cycle Cost Analysis, etc. to identify and address reliability opportunities for improvements.
