Veterinary Teaching Hospital
At the CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital ( VTH ) we exist to educate the next generation of veterinarians by providing exceptional veterinary care and service to the community every day. This work unit exists to provide administration and direction of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and provide a support facility for service to the general public and referring veterinarians.

Position Summary
This Veterinary Technician provides specialized support to the Dermatology Department Service. The role is essential for managing laboratory inventory, supplies, and equipment; coordinating schedules; maintaining detailed client communication; and ensuring the service runs smoothly through close collaboration with clients, veterinarians, and other departments. The technician supports procedures such as intradermal allergy testing, BAER testing, deep ear flushes, sedated/anesthetized biopsy, and CO2 laser procedures. This position also contributes significantly to education by training veterinary students, residents, and interns in dermatological techniques and laboratory procedures, ensuring a high standard of learning and service delivery. Their expertise and decision-making ensure the efficient coordination of complex cases, high-quality patient care, and the successful execution of time-sensitive reproductive services.
Required Job Qualifications
+ Registered as a Veterinary Technician ( RVT ) or Provisional Veterinary Technician ( PVT ) through the Department of Regulatory Agencies ( DORA ), or eligibility to obtain a state of Colorado DORA license by start date.
+ Credentialed in the State of Colorado or other eligible state determined by CACVT .
+ Minimum 2 years of experience in a veterinary setting.
NOTE : VETERINARY PRACTICE ACT – Effective January 1, 2024, anyone wanting to use the titles Registered Veterinary Technician, Veterinary Technician, RVT , or VT will have to be certified through the Colorado Association of Certified Veterinary Technicians ( CACVT ) AND registered through the Department of Regulatory Agencies ( DORA ). Duty/Responsibility
+ Utilize technical expertise to support patient care, diagnostic procedures, and treatment plans within the dermatology service. Assist clinicians, clients, and patients by coordinating appointments, performing diagnostic tests, assisting in administering treatments, and ensuring accurate record-keeping.
+ Perform blood draws, prepare and review cytology preparations, and conduct point-of-care ( POC ) diagnostic procedures.
+ Restrain large and small animals safely and effectively.
+ Assist with dermatology exams, including obtaining and processing diagnostic samples.
+ Organize incoming appointments, facilitate technician-only appointments, and coordinate surgical and non-surgical procedures.
+ Prepare and provide client estimates for medical procedures and treatments.
+ Record all charges to the EMR invoice accurately.
+ Admit and discharge patients, ensuring owners receive appropriate education regarding their pet’s medical condition, including education on administering allergy injections and potential side effects.
+ Organize and set up equipment for dermatology procedures.
+ Maintain the intradermal skin test kit and formulate allergen vials for immunotherapy testing.

Duty/Responsibility
+ Support the efficient operation of the dermatology service through administrative tasks, communication, and organizational duties, ensuring smooth client interactions, accurate documentation, and cleanliness in the clinical environment.
+ Complete and stay current with all mandatory hospital training, Hazardous Waste training, and ensure up-to-date knowledge of relevant protocols and systems.
+ Create invoices, estimates, lab orders, print labels and various forms (e.g., consent, CPR directive), and assist in managing in-house pharmacy refills and external pharmacy orders via fax, scan, or phone.
+ Contact referring veterinarians to obtain patient medical history, lab work, and histology, and upload received digital records into the EMR .
+ Coordinate with imaging staff to upload images into the PACS system.
+ Answer client calls and emails, relay clinician recommendations to clients, and directly contact clients to explain CSU VTH procedures, provide trip coordination details, and manage client expectations.
+ Ensure exam rooms are clean, stocked with necessary items and paperwork, and maintain cleanliness in dermatology and otoscopy procedure areas.
+ Transport instrument packs and equipment to Central Supply for processing, return supplies to treatment rooms, and maintain and clean clippers and blades.

Duty/Responsibility
+ Support laboratory setup and management for DVM students, interns, residents, and staff. Assist with instrumentation, cadaver acquisition and handling during lab sessions, as well as ensuring proper laboratory cleanup procedures are followed.
+ Assist with setting up labs for residents and students, including acquiring cadavers, ensuring proper handling, setup, and cleanup of laboratory equipment and materials, and reserving and organizing space for the lecture portion of labs to accommodate the number of students.
+ Guide students in appropriate laboratory cleanup procedures.
+ Coordinate with Tech III , faculty, or residents to discuss and meet specific lecture needs.
+ Communicate lab details, including location and schedule, to 3rd-year students via email, Teams, or Canvas.
+ Upload educational materials to Canvas as instructed by faculty or Tech III .
