Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) II

Position Summary: Registered Respiratory Therapist has these responsibilities: correctly uses Medi-tech and Bedside Medication Verification on a routine basis, works unassisted in critical care areas after check offs completed, able to perform all modes of therapy in all areas of hospital after clinical check offs completed, able to assess patient’s needs and suggest appropriate therapy needs, and acts as a mentor to students and new staff.

Responsibilities:

Follows charge therapist essential functions and maintains criteria. Participates in the Professional Development Program and maintains criteria annually as outlined in the document summary. Participates in committee meetings and maintains acceptance attendance as outlined in the Professional Development Program annually. Collects and documents data for monthly departmental duties such as chart audits, hand hygiene monitoring, ordering of supplies and equipment maintenance procedure. Assist in the creation of new or revised policies, procedures and protocols to improve quality improvement, customer service and overall patient experience. Assist in the investigation process of quality improvement projects. Completes five successful intubations annually or completes a yearly OR intubation rotation with signed verification of three successful intubations on an annual basis. Collects relevant information such as patient identification, procedure, appropriateness for indicated signs and symptoms, patient preparation, contraindications, patient assessment. Maintains, evaluates, and improves the processes of analyzing information for patient safety. Provides patient education. Follows policies and procedures to perform therapy and procedures accurately and to determine each achieves the same outcome when performed by different staff. Evaluates the patient study in a timely, accurate and comprehensive manner to determine if the intended outcome was achieved; uses independent judgment and systematic problem solving methods to perform quality therapy, pulmonary and diagnostic procedures; communicates to physician when patient condition requires modification. Collects data to measure departmental objectives outcomes. Documents required components of patient care. Follows organizational and department goals and objectives.

Qualifications: 

Required:

Two years of experience working in a CRT/RRT capacity. Experience also includes specializing in the NICU and/or Critical Care areas. RN charge required within 90 days of employment. Signed verification of three successful intubations within 90 days of employment. As of October 1, 2017: Education documentation required for CLIA purposes. RT license through the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts; certified through the National Board of Respiratory Care (RRT). ACLS certification BLS certification PALS certification required or must take with in six months COACH certification required or must take within six months if they charge. NRP certification required or must take within six months; additional certification may be required for certain patient care settings or populations.

Infection Control: Initial and Ongoing training in dealing with infection control. Trainings could include but are not limited to, blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids and bio hazardous materials as it applies to your daily work environment.
