Registered Nurse-Step Down Unit
Under the direction of the Nurse Manager or Executive DON, Ambulatory, an Advanced Clinical Nurse provides professional, skilled, age-specific nursing care for patients in collaboration with physicians and other disciplines. Performs all aspects of patient care, including but not limited to patient assessment, medication administration, identifying nursing problems, and care plans. Provides or delegates care according to Valleywise Health policies, functions as a client advocate and educator, completes and processes all required documentation, indirectly supervises ancillary personnel as directed, and participates in team building and quality improvement activities. The position demonstrates the professional skills and behaviors to promote comprehensive, cost-effective, and meaningful healthcare for consumers in a diverse healthcare environment. In addition, an Advanced Clinical Nurse promotes and demonstrates advancement in professional practice through additional activities such as quality improvement and leadership.   Hourly Pay Rate: $35.52 - $52.39   Qualifications Education: Requires a bachelor’s degree or higher in nursing. Experience: Must have at least one (1) year of recent acute care hospital RN experience that demonstrates an understanding of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, or if completed the New Grad RN program at Valleywise Health, then must have at least one year of Valleywise Health experience as an RN and be in good standing. Certification/Licensure: Must possess a current, valid AZ RN license, temporary AZ RN license, or valid compact RN licensure for the current state of practice. Must be in good standing with the issuing Board of Nursing. Requires a BLS card obtained through the American Heart Association (AHA) training center upon hire. In addition, certification or continuing education may be required based on the area of practice: Ambulatory Clinics: Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or submit a completed Affidavit at the time of hire. Must complete a fingerprint clearance card application within seven (7) days of the hire date. Must present an actual card within ninety (90) days of applying for a fingerprint clearance card. Angio Suite: Must obtain ACLS and PALS within six (6) months of hire or transfer. Antepartum Testing Center: Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or submit a completed Affidavit at the time of hire. Must complete a fingerprint clearance card application within seven (7) days of the hire date. Must present an actual card within ninety (90) days of applying for a fingerprint clearance card. APCU: ACLS certification is required upon hire or transfer. BH: CPI certification and BLS Card training will be provided upon hire/transfer to BH departments. BH Unit 2 Adolescent: Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or submit a completed Affidavit at the time of hire. Must complete a fingerprint clearance card application within seven (7) days of the hire date. Must present an actual card within ninety (90) days of applying for a fingerprint clearance card. Burn Med Surg Adult: ACLS required upon hire. PALS is required within 6 months. ABLS is required within 1 year. Burn Med Surg Peds: ACLS required upon hire. PALS is required within 6 months. ABLS is required within 1 year. Burn Center ICU: ACLS required upon hire. PALS is required within 6 months. ABLS is required within 1 year. Burn Unit Emergency: ACLS and PALS are required upon hire. ABLS is required within 1 year. Burn Clinic: ACLS required upon hire. PALS is required within 6 months. ABLS is required within 1 year. Cath Lab: Must have ACLS certification at the time of hire or transfer. Dialysis: Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or submit a completed Affidavit at the time of hire. Must complete a fingerprint clearance card application within seven (7) days of the hire date. Must present an actual card within ninety (90) days of applying for a fingerprint clearance card. ED – Roosevelt: ACLS and PALS are required upon hire. ATCN or TNCC, as well as ENPC, are required within twelve (12) months. Must obtain the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) within six (6) months of hire. Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) certification, Pediatric Certified Emergency Nurse (PCEN), or Trauma Certified Emergency Nurse (TCRN) is preferred. ED - Maryvale: ACLS and PALS are required upon hire. Must obtain the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) within six (6) months of hire. Certified Emergency Nurses (CEN and Pediatric Certified Emergency Nurses (CPEN) are preferred. ENDO: ACLS and PALS are required within six (6) months of hire or transfer. Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA) certification is preferred. FQHC Primary Care: Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or submit a completed Affidavit at the time of hire. Must complete a fingerprint clearance card application within seven (7) days of the hire date. Must present an actual card within ninety (90) days of applying for a fingerprint clearance card. L&D: ACLS and NRP required upon hire or within three (3) months of hire or transfer if new grad/new to service. If less than 2 years of RN L&D experience, the candidate must complete the AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring class within six (6) months and the AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring class within 2 years.  If greater than two (2) years of RN L&D experience, AWHONN will need advanced fetal monitoring upon hire. Advanced Fetal Monitoring must be maintained every two (2) years through an approved course. IRP: Must obtain ACLS certification upon hire or transfer. Additional certifications may be required to work in specialty areas. McDowell Clinic: HIV certification is required within thirty (30) months. Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or submit a completed Affidavit at the time of hire. Must complete a fingerprint clearance card application within seven (7) days of the hire date. Must present an actual card within ninety (90) days of applying for a fingerprint clearance card. Medical: ONS (Chemotherapy Biotherapy Card) within twelve (12) months of hire or transfer, must obtain ACLS certification upon Hire or Transfer. Medicine Specialty Clinic: Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or submit a completed Affidavit at the time of hire. Must complete a fingerprint clearance card application within seven (7) days of the hire date. Must present an actual card within ninety (90) days of applying for a fingerprint clearance card. MICU/ Critical Care: Must obtain ACLS upon hire or transfer. Must obtain National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) within six (6) months of hire; TNCC, ATCN, or TCAR within 12 months of hire. Critical Care Certified Nurse (CCRN) preferred. Nephrology: Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or submit a completed Affidavit at the time of hire. Must complete a fingerprint clearance card application within seven (7) days of the hire date. Must present an actual card within ninety (90) days of applying for a fingerprint clearance card. NICU: NRP required upon hire or by three months (3) months of hire or transfer for new grad/new to service. Nursing Float Pool: Must obtain ACLS certification upon hire or transfer. Additional certifications may be required to work in specialty areas. Oncology Clinic: Chemo Certification is required within six (6) months. OR (other than Peoria): CNOR certification is preferred. OR (Peoria): Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or submit a completed Affidavit at the time of hire. Must complete a fingerprint clearance card application within seven (7) days of the hire date. Must present an actual card within ninety (90) days of applying for a fingerprint clearance card. PreOp/PACU (Other than Peoria): Must obtain ACLS and PALS within six (6) months. ATCN or TNCC within twelve (12) months. Certification must be obtained within twelve (12) months. PreOp/PACU(Peoria): Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or submit a completed Affidavit at the time of hire. Must complete a fingerprint clearance card application within seven (7) days of the hire date. Must present an actual card within ninety (90) days of applying for a fingerprint clearance card. PICU: PALS/NRP required upon hire or transfer or within three (3) months if new grad/new to service and ATCN/PCAR/TNCC within 12 months. Peds Acute: PALS and NRP are required upon hire or by three (3) months of hire or transfer for new grad/new to service. Post Partum: NRP is required upon hire or by three (3) months of hire or transfer for new grad/new to service. PreOp: Must obtain ACLS & PALS within six (6) months. ATCN or TNCC certification must be obtained within twelve (12) months. SICU/ Critical Care: Must obtain ACLS certification upon hire or transfer. Must obtain ATCN, TNCC, or TCAR within twelve (12) months. Must obtain the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) within six (6) months of hire. Critical Care Certified Nurse (CCRN) preferred. Surgical: Must obtain ACLS certification upon hire or transfer. Surgical Specialty Clinic: Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or submit a completed Affidavit at the time of hire. Must complete a fingerprint clearance card application within seven (7) days of the hire date. Must present an actual card within ninety (90) days of applying for a fingerprint clearance card. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to work with culturally diverse people is a must.  Bilingual is preferred.  Must have excellent communication, time management, and customer service skills.  Requires basic computer word processing skills (e.g., formatting, editing, printing, composing email, internet searches, etc.) to navigate through an electronic medical record using a computer successfully.  Requires the ability to read, write, and speak effectively in English.
