Registered Nurse (RN) - Trauma Acute Care

The TACSU is the first of its kind at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus; a hybrid designed six bed Trauma Intermediate Care area and a combined 18-bed Trauma Telemetry & Trauma Medical/Surgical unit.

The unit is equipped and capable to adapt to the volume and acuity of 3500 annual trauma patients received at the Inova Trauma Center; adjusting the appropriate level of care needs within the TACSU. Patient populations will include but are not limited to: General trauma, Traumatic Brain Injury, Orthopedic trauma and acute care surgery cases. The average nurse: patient ratio for the Trauma Step-down is 1:3 and 1:5 for the Trauma Telemetry & Med Surgical patient population.

The Trauma Step-down clinicians will work very closely with its sister unit, the Trauma Intensive Care Unit to facilitate a smooth transition from the highest acuity to the next level of care and to ensure a comprehensive continuum of care to our trauma patients and their families.
Both the Trauma ICU and Trauma/ACSU are parallel in location located on the third floor of the Inova Fairfax Medical Campus.

The Inova Trauma Center has been verified by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and designated as a trauma center for more than 30 years by the Commonwealth of Virginia. The designation of “ Level 1, “ the highest level that can be assigned to a trauma center, is given only to centers that can provide the highest level of specialty expertise, as well as meet or exceed national standards as described by the American College of Surgeons. The Inova Trauma Center is Northern Virginia's only Level 1 Trauma Center and one of only 73 Level 1 trauma centers recognized across the U.S by the ACS.!
