An opportunity exists for a RN to join our exceptional team as a Nursing Clinical Coordinator.  This is a Full-Time Position working 24 hours per week - Every Third Weekend - on the  7 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. shift as a Nurse Clinical Coordinator and one 12 hour nights shift position as a Bedside RN in our critical care unit. GENERAL SUMMARY

The Nursing Clinical Coordinator will assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for a group of patients, guide and supervise assigned nursing personnel, collaborate with health care professionals, coordinate ancillary staff, and demonstrate professional growth and development. He/she will consistently demonstrate expert proficiency in working with complex patients within his/her scope of practice, and will serve as an organizational resource and teacher. The Nursing Clinical Coordinator will serve as an partner with the Nurse Manager, mentoring and supporting newer staff and facilitating communication, assisting in the advancement of Nursing and organizational initiatives. The Nursing Clinical Coordinator assumes delegated accountability for operations and staffing from the Nurse Manager(s). He/she will serve as a role model for expert, contemporary, evidence based nursing practice, promoting ANA standards of care and Relationship Based Care. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leads, facilitates and addresses day-to-day operational issues and communication between hospital departments.  Assumes direct, on-site leadership role during off-shift, holiday, and weekend hours.  Maintains ongoing dialogue with the unit and hospital leadership regarding operations.  Serves as the point person for information and problem solving for unit, medical, interdisciplinary staff and volunteers.Rounds frequently in patient care areas, assessing for patient care concerns and monitoring patient/nursing care activities.Initiates emergency preparedness as defined by institutional safety/disaster policies and procedures and coordinates effective and timely execution of the fire, disaster, and tornado plans.

Consults on complex problems in patient care.  Responds to all code and emergency situations; prioritizes and coordinates emergency situations through effective utilization of available personnel and services.Consults with physicians and other healthcare providers to communicate patient progress.  Maintains competency in documentation and utilization of the EMR

Demonstrates knowledge of budget and volume adjusted staffing models, and actively supports stewardship of resources with appropriate decisions:Anticipates, coordinates and implements staffing plan in collaboration with Nurse Manager(s), Charge Nurses, and Staffing OfficeDelegates care and monitors/adjusts the staffing to the workload throughout the shift and for upcoming shifts by assessing staffing matrix, patient care nursing needs, caregiver skill mix, and availability of needed staff.  Evaluates retrospective, current and prospective  productivity and adjusts to reach targeted levels  Coordinates patient admissions, discharges and transfers to achieve most appropriate bed utilization in collaboration with SJMHS Patient Resource ManagersCoordinates response to urgent/emergent situations as evidenced by reallocation of personnel and resources  Participates in patient care activities as determined by unit needs.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

Education: Bachelor of Science degree in NursingExperience: Minimum of three years progressively more responsible related work experience including involvement in direct patient care, educating staff, supervising staff, and problem solving of unit or organizational issues.  Minimum of one year related practice experience in critical care required.Licensure: Current Michigan RN License
