Registered Nurse Respite Camp -weekends needed at Camp Loyaltown Hunter, NY Fri 4-9, Sat 8-8p, Sun 8-4p

The Camp Respite Nurse works per diem/as needed in the camp respite program usually Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon and sometimes weekdays if the program requires. They are responsible for the health and safety of the respite campers. In addition, the camp respite nurses are responsible for assuring that the Health Center/Respite Program runs smoothly and effectively for both respite campers and staff.

Qualifications:

NYS certification as a licensed practical nurse or NYS license as a registered nurse. Good organizational and administrative skills and an excellent team player with a positive attitude. Annual CPR certification as per Camp DOH regulations.

Primary duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

 Coordinates the camp respite program and health center to ensure respite camper’s safety and health care compliance Required to stay on camp overnights during respite in the event a camper has any rescue medication. LPNs must contact RN for assessment and triage RN Creates/reviews/updates nursing care plans for respite campers Communicates with respite camper families regarding medication and health changes/issues prior to respite dates Ensures medical documentation/scripts are obtained and current for prior to camp respite weekend Creates MARs for the respite camper dates and the per diem camp respite nurse review and cosigns them as per agency policy Pouring and administration of daily medications to the assigned respite campers Maintains Nursing/agency/DOH, ACA, etc. documentation as required Daily check of AEDs/refrigerators and documentation that AEDs/refrigerators are in working order or delegation of the same Trains new camp respite nurses regarding their respite nursing responsibilities Ordering of Health Center medical supplies when needed; monthly review of supplies for expiration and inventory, and maintaining organization within the Health center Camp respite nurses are also responsible for maintaining cleanliness and organization of the Health Center during the camp respite(s) Seek current info on respite campers’ state of well-being by discussions with respite staff, Assistant Directors, and direct observations at mealtimes and evening activities Ensure camp staff are trained on camper’s guidelines/doctor’s orders and that there is documentation (staff signatures) denoting the same Make arrangements at local Doctor’s office if respite camper’s condition requires an office visit Respond to all emergencies/seizures/falls occurring on camp during respite Communicate with parents/families, physicians and hospital staff-(if pertinent) regarding any change in a respite camper’s health status; including continued follow up on all medical issues and plan appropriate care in the event of illness/injury Participates in recreational activities with campers during respite and assists staff with camper’s ADLs Follows DOH and ACA regulations;  agency policies and procedures the employee handbook, and agency and program training requirements Reports to the Justice Center as a mandated reporter if there is reasonable cause to suspect abuse or neglect.  Additionally, must follow all agency incident policy and procedures Reports and documents any events/activities that may hinder the health, safety and well-being of the people that attend camp (i.e., allegations of abuse, injuries, broken equipment, etc.) Arrives to work by the start of scheduled shift and adheres to agency policy and procedure concerning call offs
