Crouse Hospital's PeriOperative Nurse Academy is unique to the area and offers a foundation for excellence and learning. This professional development initiative provides competitive pay with an in-depth orientation to the challenges and rewards of nursing practice in the PeriOperative arena. Progression through the program is expected to take nine to twelve months. Those accepted must agree to a two year commitment in the OR after completion of the program. The Academy experience includes:
+ PeriOp 101 (an online core curriculum developed by AORN)
+ Hands-on training in our state-of-the-art simulation lab
+ Specialty trained mentors and preceptors
+ Newly developed service-specific clinical pathways
+ Transition points that include celebration and recognition
+ Ongoing feedback and evaluation
The Registered Professional Nurse is responsible for the planning, implementing and evaluation of care for a given patient population with the established standards and practices of Crouse Hospital. This process is enacted through direct clinical practice, management of patient care and general professional duties.
Education Requirements: Required:
+ Graduate of an accredited associate degree program
+ A Graduate Nurse (GN) must complete NCLEX within 120 days of employment.
Preferred:
+ Bachelor of Science in Nursing from accredited nursing program or higher degree
+ For RNs licensed in or after 2017, completion of a Bachelor’s of Nursing Degree will be required within 8 years of the date the license was obtained.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
Required:
+ Current New York State licensure as a Registered Nurse
+ Basic Life Support (BLS)
Preferred:
+ Certification in a specialty area
