Registered Nurse - Hospice
Directly responsible and accountable for the care provided to a Hospice patient and family utilizing the services of Hospice. Treatment includes assessment and ongoing evaluation of the physical, emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of the patient and family. The nurse coordinates the development of a nursing care plan and the implementation and evaluation of that plan. The RN also supervises volunteers and Hospice Aides who may be assisting the patient. The RN provides weekly case presentations to the Hospice interdisciplinary team for approval. When providing Hospice on-call services, the RN utilizes the nursing process to deal with emergencies and ensures that all nursing services are in compliance with standard nursing procedures and regulations. Job Requirements Knowledge of /Skill/Ability to: Oral and written and interpersonal communication skills. Organizational and problem solving skills must be able to handle multiple tasks and exercise sound clinical and independent judgments in all age groups served. Excellent verbal, computer and communication skills required. License/Certification: Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Oregon; BLS certification required through the American Heart Association; valid driver's license with current automobile insurance coverage and safe driving record is required. Education and/or Experience: At least one-year experiences as a staff nurse in hospital caring for acutely and terminally ill patients; hospice nursing preferred. For RNs graduating within the last 12 months, or RNs that have not practiced in an acute care facility within the last 24 months and have not previously completed a residency program will be required to complete the CMH-provided Nurse Residency program. Physical Demands and Work Environment Conditions / ADA Compliance Often work alone; ability to lift and transfer patients usually alone; flexibility and availability to meet needs of patient and unexpected referrals; travel to patient's home and other healthcare facilities -must drive or provide own transportation; normal or corrected vision is required-normal or corrected hearing is necessary; physical and emotional stress of dealing with death and dying; on-call hours required during night and daylight hours. Position involves standing, walking, stooping, and occasional carrying and lifting of lightweight materials (up to 40 pounds). May be required to sit for extended periods of time. Requires visual acuity and depth perception to recognize words and numbers; and hand and finger dexterity and hand/eye coordination to use a computer keyboard and common office equipment. Four average visits per day.
