The Emergency Department is a 50 bed unit. The ED sees an average of 160 patients per day. Patients are transported by ambulances as well as entering directly through the walk-in entrance. The ED is equipped to handle all types of emergencies from acute cardiac conditions to women in active labor. Crouse is a designated Stroke and Chest Pain Center of Excellence. The unit is staffed 24/7 by Attending Physicians, RN's, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Emergency Care Techs as well as secretarial support. An average of 25% of the patients who come through the ED are admitted to the hospital.
The Registered Professional Nurse is responsible for the planning, implementing and evaluation of care for a given patient population with the established standards and practices of Crouse Hospital. This process is enacted through direct clinical practice, management of patient care and general professional duties.
Required: IF HIRED OR LICENSED AFTER 1/1/2017:
Graduate of an accredited Nursing degree. MUST complete BSN (Bachelors in Nursing within 8 years of hire date into the Registered Nurse position). Currently licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State. Minimum of one (1) year of recent Adult Med/Surg or Adult ICU experience required. This should be within the last five (5) years. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at time of hire or within 2 weeks after hire. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification must be obtained within one (1) year of the hire date, if deemed necessary for the position based on the scope of the assigned role. Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) certification for Registered Nurses working in the Kienzle Family Maternity Center must be obtained by the end of orientation.
Preferred: Certification in a specialty area.
