Position Summary:
Manages the surgical board. Responsible for ensuring the schedule is developed to support our customers, balancing the schedule with regard to required resources, communication between all the various disciplines (PASS, ICU, Anesthesia, Surgeons, Patients), directing staff in order to keep schedule on time and implementing service recovery when necessary. Oversees the nursing plan of care for patients within the assigned unit. Ensures the nursing plan of care meets the physiological and emotional needs of the patients served. Directs patient care through performance and/or leadership of patient care team members and patient care management staff. Assists in the coordination of patient care through the appropriate utilization of all resources; staff, equipment, supplies, etc. As an expert to manage the assigned specialty, is a resource to both the staff and physicians. Assumes accountability for coordination and facilitation of patient flow and processes in collaboration with Patient Care Team Members.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Effectively coordinates Surgical Schedule to optimize room, staff utilization and a positive patient experience. Collaborates and cooperates with Physician and Physician Offices in the development of the Surgical Schedule. Keeps Clinical Nurse Manager or designee informed. Serves as an expert in documentation requirements and system. Works closely with Health Care Team for case planning for specialty procedures. Demonstrates responsibility for the teaching of personnel in new technique and procedures, as well as changes in policies and procedures. Assists with patient care as needed. Maintains training and skills in age-specific competencies for the categories being served. Participates in McLaren Macomb and/or departmental quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities as directed; through the identification of quality improvement opportunities, goal setting, collection and evaluation of data, implementation of action plans, and related applications. Required:
Associates degree in Nursing or equivalent Five years of prior work experience in OR/PACU Current State of Michigan RN license BLS certification from American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalent, is required before start date and valid at least 60 days beyond start date.
Preferred:
