GENERAL SUMMARY:
Performs a wide variety of professional nursing care activities and accommodates services for the physicians and the practice, following established standards, practices, policies and procedures. Candidate must have demonstrated knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care. Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe working environment. Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient care. Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions. Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Demonstrated skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :
· Performs general nursing activities, ensuring quality care and efficient/timely flow of patients.
· Assists Cardiologist and APPs with in-office procedures and ancillary clinics (i.e. lipid clinics, heart failure clinics, anti-coagulation clinics).
· May perform minor procedures independently under the direction of the Cardiologist/APP.
· Supervision of nuclear stress tests, treadmill stress tests, stress echos and chemical stress tests in the outpatient practice setting.
· Reads and interprets electrocardiograms.
· Interrogation and adjustment of pacemaker and/or defibrillator devices in collaboration with Cardiologist.
· Use proper injection techniques. Maintains a sterile technique.
· Provide post-procedural follow-up care in the outpatient practice setting.
· Interpret, monitor and adjust anticoagulation therapy under the direction of the Cardiologist.
· Prepares equipment and aids Physicians during treatment, examination and testing of patients. Maintains and securely controls medical supplies and medication counts, with adequate supporting records.
· Maintains medication safety by monitoring refrigerator and freezer temperatures and dating multi-dose vials when opened. Ensures that no expired medications are available for use.
· Communicates with courtesy when interacting with internal or external patients and customers-in person or on the telephone.
· Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
· Exhibits respect for co-workers and develops positive working relationships within the practice and other departments.
· Demonstrates commitment to professional and personal growth, i.e. completes all mandatory educational requirements, maintains certifications, attend continuing education courses/seminars, and acts as designated preceptor.
· Proactively supports a culture of safety and quality to protect our patients and employees.
· Honors patient's rights by following privacy guidelines, HIPAA, and code of ethics with our patients, physicians, co-workers, and guests.
· Performs other job-related duties as assigned, needed or requested.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
· Ability to supervise exercise stress tests including nuclear stress tests, treadmill stress tests, stress echos and chemical stress tests.
· Ability to read and interpret electrocardiograms.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:
· Ability to interrogate and adjust pacemaker and/or defibrillator devices preferred.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
· BSN preferred; graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing.
· Minimum two years professional nursing experience; Cardiology office/clinic preferred.
· Minimum one-year experience with supervision of exercise stress tests including nuclear stress tests, treadmill stress tests, stress echos and chemical stress tests.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
· Current and valid Florida Board of Nursing Registered Nurse License.
· Maintains current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
· Valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
