Job Summary:
The Registered Dietitian (RD) provides nutritional assessments, makes recommendations, and implements plans of care based on these assessments in the Acute Care, Long Term Care, and Outpatient settings. The RD assists with education for Diabetes Self-Management Education Program. The RD creates and recommends educational literature for patient use and for community education. The RD participates in menu development and serves as a resource for food service staff.
The RD develops diets as appropriate for patients according to their medical needs.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
+ Effectively manages time to meet the job requirements listed above.
+ Works with Food Service to ensure nutritional needs of patient/resident populations throughout the organization are being met.
+ Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings in Acute Care and Long Term Care to provide input regarding the nutritional care of the patients/residents on an ass needed basis.
Duties/Responsibilities:
+ Supervises the development of specialized diets using appropriate dietary modifications where necessary.
+ Reviews menus and takes responsibility for the evaluation of all menus for nutritional correctness.
+ Counsels patients, families, and staff on the nutritional care of patients/residents; developing and providing education as needed.
+ Coordinates with the dietary department to make certain needed nutritional supplements are obtained as needed for patient care.
+ Works with physicians, nurses, and pharmacists to provide parenteral nutrition when required.
+ Contributes to patient/resident care plans to address the nutritional needs of the patient; attends care-planning conferences and interdisciplinary meetings on an as needed basis.
+ Plans and presents monthly in-service programs for dietary staff; conducts training sessions for other departments.

Education and Experience:
+ Bachelor's degree in the field of dietetics.
+ State license.
+ Certification from the American Dietary Association preferred.
+ At least two years of experience in a related field of dietary work.
+ A satisfactory combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
Physical Requirements:
+ Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing while communicating with patients may be required.
+ Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
