Regional Reporter

The San Antonio Express-News seeks an enterprising, independent-minded journalist to write about the rapid population growth and associated pressures in communities along the Interstate 35 corridor between San Antonio and Austin -- with an emphasis on transportation.

In this role, you will join a multi-reporter regional team covering San Antonio’s suburbs and exurbs, including portions of the Texas Hill Country. These areas include some of the fastest-growing ZIP codes in the United States, and the reverberations of rapid population growth extend to schools, local politics, the environment, water supply, mobility and ideological battles over reproductive rights, school curricula, policing, and more.

Reporters on the regional team have specialties, and yours, if you are hired for this position, will be transportation on a regional scale: how people get from place to place, the difficulties they encounter and what is being done about it (or not). You’ll cover breaking news, write human interest features and develop enterprise and accountability stories. Your editors will help you balance those priorities.
