Job Description

Major Responsibilities
- Under the executive or general direction of borough management, with varying degrees of latitude for the exercise of independent judgement, provide innovative leadership in managing, operating and improving assigned parks and playgrounds.
- Supervise Administrative Park and Recreation Managers and other assigned staff in multiple districts and sectors.
- Review and advise on Capital designs and maintenance implications for Capital projects.
- Engage in fundraising for special projects.
- Manage complex borough resources providing assistance and wise allocations across all districts and units. Discuss needs and schedules with Chiefs to coordinate efforts effectively.
- Establish and implement plans for improving conditions and usage of sites in assigned areas.
- Oversee seasonal budget and operation for assigned area of responsibility. Determine staffing, supply needs and resource allocation.
- Ensure Park features are inspected in accordance with Parks Inspection Program (PIP) standards, and aggressively pursue the immediate correction of safety hazards.
- Track district maintenance activities, status of work orders and inventory levels using the Asset Management Park System (AMPS).
- Ensure Standard Operating Procedures are being fully implemented on the prescribed schedule.
- Provide the Chief of Operations with weekly status reports and other reports as requested.
- Attend community board and civic organization meetings and respond to the needs of community organizations, partnership groups and public officials.
- Manage and direct complex projects and special events that require intra/interagency collaboration, prompt attention and resolution.
- Coordinate and develop volunteer projects in districts and sectors.
- Manage staff development and serve as a liaison with the Parks Academy.
- Ensure compliance with Parks’ rules, regulations, standards of conduct, uniform codes and vehicle operating procedures.
- Work in coordination with city agencies.
Qualification Requirements
* This vacancy is only open to 1) current permanent employees serving in the Administrative Park & Recreation Manager civil service title or 2) on leave from the title or 3) permanent employees in or on leave from a comparable title (e.g. Administrative Staff Analyst or Administrative Manager) or 4) employees who took and passed the recent APRM exam (Exam No. 4505 or Exam No. 4005) or 5) employees who are reachable on a comparable civil service list. License Requirement
A Motor Vehicle Driver's License valid in the State of New York is required within six months of the date of appointment.

Qualifications
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college plus four years of satisfactory, full-time experience in recreation leadership, gardening, grounds maintenance, building maintenance or construction, of which 18 months must have been in an administrative, consultative, managerial or executive capacity; or
2. High school graduation or its educational equivalent plus six years of experience as described in "1" above; or
3.Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must possess the 18 months of administrative, consultative, managerial, or executive experience as described in "1" above.
