Scope of the role

We are on the lookout for a highly motivated, regional Head of Content to join our Cape-Town based team. The ideal candidate is a strong writer, story teller and editor, with a love for crafting compelling and informative content and editorial.

Experience as a public relations content writer is preferred, as well as the ability to digest and translate complex industry jargon into understandable and educational content suited to target audiences. 

We’re on the lookout for someone that is eager to learn about our range of clients’ diverse industries, ready to give and receive honest and constructive feedback and guide the content team to new, great heights!

The successful candidate will be responsible for the creation of PR content on behalf of a suite of top-tier clients, predominantly in the corporate and financial services sector, with a sprinkle of consumer writing on the side. The ideal candidate is someone who is well-rounded enough to adapt their writing style to suit the communications strategies and styles of both B2B and consumer brands.

Responsibilities:

Conduct desktop research and write content (mostly press releases and thought leadership articles) that hits the mark in terms of client brief and media expectationsWork with client management teams to develop content calendars, ideas and topicsInterview clients in journalistic fashion for content creation purposesRun our daily content meetings and help in sourcing and identifying news angles for clientsAssist client service teams with generating ideas for content and run with the process from ideation to content creationAttend client-facing briefings and spokesperson interviews as requiredAssist with the editing and proofreading of case studies and other content for the MSL websiteRun MSL’s social media pages – developing both written and multimedia contentWrite thought leadership content purposed towards promoting MSL’s expertise and servicesServe as support for client management teams and step in above and beyond your expected duties to fill gaps and help teams during busy periodsWork in a fast-paced, deadline-driven work environmentUse word processing, video/sound editing and related software and tools efficiently and effectivelyPerform data entry via content management systems for client websites such as WordPress and similar applications

QualificationsA tertiary qualification in English Studies/Journalism/Copywriting or related field5+ year’s working experience as a content writer or in a similar roleProficient in MS Office (i.e. Word / Excel / PowerPoint etc.)Knowledge of how to use Canva is advantageousBasic knowledge of SEO content writing is advantageousStrong organisational, administrative and time management skillsKnowledge of and experience with social media marketing is advantageousWordpress or similar CMS experience is advantageous
