Referral Coordinator - Orthopedics

Job Description:

The Referral Specialist is responsible to execute patient referrals as indicated by physicians, seek authorization as required by individual insurances and notify patients.

Schedule Monday - Friday 8 am - 5 pm.

Obtains referral request from physician.Verifies insurance coverage or lack thereof for patient. Obtains authorizations if needed from insurance coverage.Gathers all records necessary for incoming or outgoing referral requests.Gathers pertinent information from insurance carriers, financial counselors, and other ancillary staff to make certain the patient's financial obligations for services provided.Completes referral paperwork, including copies, and fax to medical office.Contacts patient regarding referral information and give name, location, telephone number of specialist.Acts as a liaison between hospitals, physicians, health plans, vendors, and patients, or other referral sources.Covers New Patient Coordinator, Non-oncology referral coordinator, HIM, VA authorizations and phones as needed and under the supervision of the team Leader.Promotes mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Health, and abides by service behavior standards.

Minimum Qualifications

One year front office or revenue cycle experience in a health care organization.One year of customer service.One year of Microsoft Suite.

Physical Requirements:

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.Frequent interactions with customers that require employee to communicate as well as understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer, phone, and cable set-up and use.Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transport, pull, and push equipment. Will also work on hands and knees and bend to set-up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies and equipment.Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

$19.27 - $29.33
