+ Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, Computer and/or Data Science, Design, or a related field.
+ 7+ years of related experience beyond education, including staff and space management.
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
+ An advanced degree (MS/PhD) in a related field is highly preferred.
+ Knowledge and expertise in AI and digital fabrication is highly preferred.
+ Experience with one or more machine learning and deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras.
+ Experience with AI/ML domains such as Causal AI, Reinforcement Learning, Generative AI, NLP, Dimension Reduction, Computer Vision, and Sequential Models.
+ Experience in the design and development of embedded systems, including hardware-software integration, microcontroller programming, and real-time operating systems (RTOS).
+ Experience with educational content development and innovation in a related field.
+ Involvement in or familiarity with the maker space ethos, philosophy, and mission.
+ Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to articulate vision in written and oral communication forms and deliver presentations to various stakeholders.
+ The ability to work with a diverse group of students, staff, and faculty is essential.
+ Track record of creativity in problem-solving, self-motivation, strong organizational skills and the ability to support multiple, ongoing projects.
+ Strong awareness of lab safety regulations, proper implementation of personal protective equipment, and the safe use of makerspace tools and resources.

Strategic Vision
+ Envision and lead the effort for positioning SEAS Makerspace as a key hub for innovation, design and STEM related programming that engages participation and networking from humanities, liberal arts, social/life/applied sciences, engineering, health and medicine.
+ Establish strong interdisciplinary partnerships with SEAS directors of active learning and shop managers in support of a broader making ecosystem.
+ Identify potential partners of artists, designers, expert makers, software, computation, robotics and tech experts, fabrication and machine specialists to collaborate on developing a diverse range of workshops, hosting training and showcasing activities, and sharing recommendations and best practices.
Programming, and Content Development
+ Partner with Harvard faculty and academic leaders on the creation, promotion and assessment of makerspace curriculum, lectures, workshops and seminars.
+ Develop learning exercises, hands-on activities, workshops, and demos on various new and emerging topics such as AI, machine learning, embedded systems, and digital fabrication techniques.
+ Collaborate and consult with students, postdocs, staff, and faculty on various embedded systems designs, and digital fabrication projects.
+ Mentor students, staff, and faculty on AI and machine learning projects, providing expertise in Machine Learning frameworks, Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and other relevant tools.
+ Evaluate past and present technologies to help develop and implement new tools utilizing advanced AI techniques and digital fabrication.
+ Attend Makerspace meetings, conferences, and community events to develop strategic alliances and partnerships with similar programs to learn from their experiences and increase public awareness of SEAS Makerspace.
Operations, Space & Resource Management
+ Foster a unique, welcoming, accessible and collegial environment for making; one that encourages the participation, collaboration, and mutual support of a diverse community of engaged users.
+ Advise Makerspace users on key principles of problem-solving, design thinking, idea development, crafting, aesthetics of making and exhibiting.
+ Lead public outreach and engagement seminars and educational events for a wide range of learners and stakeholders.
+ Engage with industry partners to bring field expertise, cutting-edge making tools and resources to the Makerspace.
+ Assume the duties and responsibilities of the Makerspace designated lab safety officer.
Financial Management
+ Develop the annual Makerspace budget and spending plan.
+ Provide guidance on capital investments.
+ Create and present detailed budget reports and spending analysis to the Assistant Dean for Teaching and Learning as requested.
+ Provide direction for Makerspace fundraising activities and grant opportunities in collaboration with Harvard development staff.
Staff Management
+ Develop team and unit-based growth strategies.
+ Directly supervise the Makerspace Manager. Assign work, support skill and career development, provide regular performance feedback, handle performance issues, participate in problem resolution, and conduct performance reviews.
+ Collaborate with the Makerspace Manager on recruiting and supervising shop monitors, mentors/advisors, and student interns.
+ Work closely with SEAS human resources on employee relations, policies, and other human resources-related issues.

The Makerspace environment includes heavy machinery and tools and can be noisy at times. Must adhere to safety protocols; protective equipment is required and provided.
Job Summary:
The Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) seeks a visionary director to lead the effort of pushing creativity to the forefront of a newly established SEAS Makerspace, and who will create a welcoming and interactive environment for Harvard students, staff and community users. The director will be responsible for developing the overall strategic vision for the Makerspace in coordination with SEAS/Harvard faculty and leadership partners. In addition, they will be responsible for the development and execution of Makerspace curriculum, programs/workshops, and the development of all related sustainable business plans. The director will also be responsible for staff, space and resource management. They will serve as a key point of contact for program-related outreach and engagement with a variety of stakeholders, including makerspace experts, Harvard alums and industry partners for the purposes of program innovation, funding and maker community building.
