Responsibilities This is a training position for a certified Lifeguard. Works under close supervision wherein the work is closely reviewed/monitored and detailed guidance provided. Must participate in all required training (emergency rescue drills, emergency action plan simulations). Mandatory certifications must be completed within 30 calendar days of employment. Upon completion of mandatory certifications, the incumbent will be noncompetitively reassigned to Recreation Aid (Lifeguard), PD #3206, responsible for lifeguarding guest in attendance at an assigned aquatic facility. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Must be able to swim and participate in the lifeguard certifications. Must have or be able to obtain a nationally recognized lifeguarding certification within 30 days of employment to include the ability to swim 300 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, tread water for 2 minutes using legs only, to retrieve a 10 lb. Dive brick from 10 feet deep, surface and swim 20 yards with weight using legs only and exit the pool without using a ladder within 100 seconds. Must have working knowledge of equipment such as: First aid kits, buoys, rings, shepherd's hooks, and backboards. Experience which provides a practical knowledge of instructional and developmental teaching methods, swimming activities is highly desired. Knowledge of pool rules, procedures and skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety equipment is desirable. Must successfully complete local and national agency checks as well as state and national criminal background checks. Pay-Band (NF or CY) Allowances and Differentials This is a pay-banded position. Sunday premium pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. If authorized, only regular (full-time, part-time, limited tenure and seasonal) employees may be paid Sunday premium pay. When authorized, Sunday premium will be paid at the rate of 25% of the basic rate for all hours of non-overtime, when any part of the scheduled tour of duty is performed on Sunday (to a maximum of 8 hours per Sunday). Night differential may be authorized by the Garrison Commander.
