In this role you will oversee the end-to-end reconciliations function across relevant product lines within the organisation by ensuring that all reconciliation processes are executed efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with regulatory and operational standards.

Lead a team of Reconciliations Team Managers and Team Leaders and indirectly manage other reconciliations professionals and remain accountable for developing and implementing strategic reconciliation frameworks, optimising processes, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Engage in effective stakeholder engagement, mitigate risk, and play a key role in enhancing operational performance and ensuring financial integrity across all reconciliations functions.

Are you someone who can:

Develop and implement the overall reconciliation strategy to align with business objectives, ensuring high standards of accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across the function.Drive continuous process improvements and automation initiatives within the reconciliation function, aiming to reduce manual intervention, increase efficiency, and enhance accuracy.Lead, mentor, and manage reconciliations professionals, ensuring that they are empowered to effectively oversee their teams and meet operational targets.Oversee the identification and resolution of reconciliation discrepancies, ensuring that all exceptions are addressed promptly and that controls are in place to mitigate operational risk.Ensure all reconciliation processes comply with local and international regulatory standards, including those set by the South African Reserve Bank and other financial regulators.Act as the primary liaison with key internal and external stakeholders, including Finance, Risk, and Technology teams, ensuring alignment of reconciliation processes with broader business objectives.Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial data and reports generated by the reconciliation teams, ensuring timely delivery for internal and external audits.Collaborate with IT to ensure that the reconciliation systems are up-to-date, secure, and functioning optimally to support operational needs.Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and service level agreements (SLAs) for the reconciliation function, driving a performance-driven culture within the team.Design and implement training programmes for Reconciliations Team Leaders, Specialists and Consultants to ensure ongoing professional development and enhance operational competencies.Oversee the escalation and resolution of complex reconciliation issues that cannot be resolved, ensuring timely and effective solutions.Prepare and present regular reports on reconciliation performance, discrepancies, risks, and remediation actions to senior management.Lead or participate in cross-functional projects aimed at improving the reconciliation process, system upgrades, or compliance initiatives.Ensure that reconciliation processes contribute to sound financial control, supporting the accurate representation of the bank’s financial position.Stay abreast of technological advancements in reconciliation tools and ensure the reconciliation function is leveraging appropriate technology to enhance efficiency and accuracy.Foster a collaborative work environment by working closely with other departments such as Finance, Risk, IT, and Operations to ensure seamless integration of reconciliation processes.Encourage innovation within the team by exploring and implementing new tools, technologies, and methodologies that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of reconciliation operations.Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement by setting clear goals, providing regular feedback, and recognising top performers within the team.Champion a risk-aware culture, ensuring all team members adhere to compliance and regulatory standards, while proactively identifying and mitigating operational risks.Keep up to date with industry trends and best practices in reconciliations and financial operations, implementing changes to maintain the function’s competitiveness and compliance.

You will be an ideal candidate if you:

Have completed a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance or related fieldHave 8+ years of experience in reconciliations, financial operations, or accounting within the banking or financial services sector, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role.Have completed a relevant certification in financial operations or risk managementIn-depth knowledge of reconciliation processes, financial controls, and risk management within a banking environment.Have experience with reconciliation software and financial systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or other banking reconciliation tools).Have a strong understanding of South African financial regulations and compliance standards.Have expertise in data management, financial reporting, and discrepancy resolution.Are able to lead, mentor, and develop high-performing teams.Have demonstrable experience in managing large-scale reconciliations across complex product lines.Have a proven track record of implementing process improvements and operational efficiency projects.Have experience in stakeholder management and the ability to navigate a complex organisational structure.
