ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB’s New York City office is seeking a Rail Signal Intern to work on signal engineering projects during the Summer of 2025. The intern will learn technical skills and design approach with relation to railroad and transit signal systems.
Responsibilities
Effectively interact with numerous VHB staff, clients, and consultants to advance projects in a timely mannerEngineering calculationsContract documents including specificationsAssist in planning, analysis, preliminary and final design document preparation for transit-focused system infrastructure projectsProduce/draw railway signal and comms design drawings in CADSurvey of existing signal and comms equipment on MTA and MNRSkills and Attributes
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsAbility to independently manage multiple tasks and interact appropriately and positively with clientsSelf-motivated with attention to detailRobust technical and critical thinking skillsExposure to CAD software such as MicroStation and AutoCADQualifications
Currently pursuing undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering or related fieldMust have the ability to conduct tasks independentlyStrong interest in comms and signal engineeringOur best estimate of the hourly salary range for this position located in New York is $19/hr - $28/hr. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
