Summary
The Radiologist Assistant is a health care professional who provides primary health care services in medical imaging with physician supervision. Within the physician/RPA/RRA relationship and under the supervision, guidance and discretion of the supervising physician RPAs/RRAs exercise autonomy in decision making in the role of a primary health care provider with regard to patient assessment, patient management and in providing a broad range of radiology diagnostic and interventional services.Job Description
The Radiologist Assistant will evaluate the day's schedule of procedures with the supervising physician and determine where their skills will be best utilized. After demonstrating competency and under the guidance, supervision, and discretion of the supervising physician, may perform procedures including but not limited to Fluoroscopic procedures, ultrasound, computed tomography, and fluoroscopic guided biopsies, ultrasound, computed tomography, or fluoroscopic drainages and drainage catheter placements, arthrograms, myelograms, vascular access procedures (arteriograms, venograms), venous access procedures (declots, permacath placements, central venous line placement), IVC filter placement, fistulagrams, and gastrostomies. Evaluate medical images, review preliminary reports and images with a supervising physician, and prepare technical reports that will be reviewed and signed off by the supervising physician. Assess and evaluate the physiologic and psychological responsiveness of each patient. Participate in patient management, including prescriptive powers for acquisition of additional imaging procedures, following review with the supervising physician. Maintain values congruent with the Code of Ethics, as well as adhering to national, institutional and/or departmental standards, policies, and procedures regarding the standards of care for patients.
Qualifications
Graduate of an educational program recognized by the CBRPA and/or ARRT required.Certified by the CBRPA and or ARRT or required. Maintenance of an active radiographer registration status required. Current certification in Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) skills. Maintain current levels of education in emerging techniques, procedures, and therapies by obtaining a minimum of 24 hours of continuing education each biennium as required by CBRPA and or ARRT and maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification. If working in North Dakota and performing medical imaging or radiation therapy procedures, licensure with the North Dakota Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Board (NDMIRT) is required
