Job SummaryBattelle is seeking a Radio Frequency Design Engineer (Level 3) to work in the Electronic Warfare group within the National Security Division. The position is located at Battelle Headquarters in Columbus, OH.
The RF Design Engineer will be responsible for leading tasks in the development of complex RF systems, instruments, and components for utilization in cyber and Electronic Warfare (EW) solutions. The applicant must have substantial experience in RF designs implemented at a circuit board level integrated into larger systems, RF design techniques, impedance matching, simulation tools and microwave test equipment. This position will work closely with antenna engineers on state-of-the-art phased array antennas, requiring a solid foundational understanding of antenna design and phased array applications including Electronic Beam Steering (EBS) and Direction Finding (DF). A successful candidate will be capable of assisting in the creation of technical presentations and reports, working near-autonomously on underdefined problems, and participating in client interactions and field tests.
ResponsibilitiesThe candidate will provide technical leadership, subject matter expertise and individual execution within engineering projects requiring design, prototyping, analysis, testing, fabrication and integration of RF/microwave systems, instruments, and components into multi-disciplinary engineering solutions. These solutions will provide essential capabilities to operators in a wide variety of domains including communications, signal intelligence, radar, cyber and EW.

Microwave/RF system, subsystem and component analysis, design, prototyping and integrationECAD design experience using software suites such as Cadance Virtuoso and Allegro, and Altium DesignerDesigning RF/microwave Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) and Card Carrier Assemblies (CCA)Testing using standard EE and RF/microwave equipment such as vector network analyzers, power meters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, noise sources, multimeter, and signal sourcesHands-on design experience with electromagnetic simulation and modeling tools such as HFSS, CST, ADS, Genesys and/or AWRCreating and/or working with RF/microwave link budgets to drive system requirementsTechnical writing for proposals, white papers, test plans and reportsExpertise in RF hardware design concepts, practices, and procedures.Experience with the full hardware cycle from design and simulations to testing and validation.Knowledge of antenna design and testing required.Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills requiredPreferred Qualifications
