Radiation Safety Officer

** *Position Title: Radiation Safety Officer* The*Montana Department of Transportation (MDT)*is recruiting for a Radiation Safety Officer. This position is responsible for developing and implementing a radiation safety program and serving as the compliance inspector to ensure the safety of department personnel, the environment and the public in adherence to the license agreement with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and the law. Responsible for analyzing, maintaining and repairing the MDT inventory of nuclear densometers to ensure radiological safety and cost-effective operations in compliance with specifications, manufacturer’s recommendations, NRC regulations, department policies and state and federal laws. Assists in delivery of the Western Alliance for Quality Transportation Construction training and the statewide Independent Assurance Program. Assists with maintaining MDT’s central laboratory federally mandated American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials resources and the Cement and Concrete Reference Laboratory accreditation. This position reports to the New Products/QPL Manager and does not supervise others. Such as 6 years of related experience. This agency may use a training assignment. Employees in training assignments may be paid below the base pay established by the agency pay rules. Conditions of the training assignment will be stated in writing at the time of hire. *Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:* * Knowledge of electrical circuitry; testing, storing, transporting and operating nuclear densometers; radiation hygiene. * Knowledge of materials sampling and testing practices, equipment, procedures, and state and federal requirements. * Operating equipment such as nuclear densometers, power tools, EPROM Programmers/Erasers, computers and MDT software, Geiger Counters, Oscilloscopes, Volt/Ohm Meters, Leak-test Ratemeter and audio-visual equipment for training. * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department employees, state and federal agencies, vendors, materials suppliers, contractors, and project engineers. *Required Application Materials:* * A resume detailing your qualifications and work history. * Transcripts (if applicable) Your online application and all required materials must be submitted before midnight on the closing date.
