Job Summary Coordinate with Radiation Oncology in the Richmond market to verify patient insurance coverage and obtain insurance authorizations. Demonstrates attitudes and/or behaviors in interacting with others that are courteous, polite, concerned, friendly and respectful, resulting in favorable patient, physician and staff perceptions of the Bon Secours Cancer Institute and its employees. Job Functions + Obtain and monitor processes for insurance authorizations timely and accurately complying with department requirements + Confirm that a patient’s health insurance is active and covers the patient’s procedure; may be completed multiple times before, during, and after a patient’s visit + Provides Patient financial counseling to assist in calculating and initiating setting up collection payment plans. + Adheres to department policies and procedures for the auditing of complete, accurate, timely and consistent diagnosis (ICD-10) and procedure (CPT) codes for professional, technical and global billing. + Initiates physician query when appropriate. + Responsible for accurately maintaining patient authorizations + Communicate in an effectively, prompt and courteous manner to establish effective relationships with a variety of persons ranging from patients, families, clinical staff, physicians and professionals by telephone, in written form, e-mail or in person. + Verify that insurance pre-authorizations are obtained and maintained on designated patients into all EMRs. This requires access to all necessary EMRs. + Works to reduce pre-authorization denials + Review and analyze patient visit information to determine whether authorization is needed and understand payer specific criteria to appropriately secure authorization and clear the account prior to service when possible. + Ensures that services provided to eligible members are within benefit plan and appropriate contracted providers are being utilized. + Educates staff and physicians of coding and reimbursement policy changes as appropriate. + Communicates with billing provider to achieve timely, accurate billing and collections + Preparation of various reports as required. + Any other function needed for the efficiency and effectiveness of patient care within the department within legal limitations Qualifications/Education + Minimum 5 years billing experience – preferably radiation oncology.
