Your role and responsibilitiesWe are looking for a R&D Team Lead, Shaft Line at ABB Oy, Marine and Ports in Vuosaari, Helsinki.In this position, you will be working in our Marine Propulsion technology department. One of your main responsibilities will be leading a team of Research and Development (R&D) professionals, supporting them in achieving the agreed R&D targets. You will be coaching and developing the team, helping to manage shaft line technologies, and Intellectual Property (IP) while working in close co-operation with internal and external stakeholders. Azipod® propulsion is a gearless steerable propulsion system where the electric drive motor is in a submerged pod outside the ship hull. Azipod® units can rotate 360 degrees to increase maneuverability and operating efficiency. We offer the possibility to work with and develop state-of-the-art technology and lead the way for successful business in a truly global environment.•Leading the development of dedicated Azipod technology R&D initiatives from concepting to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines, budget, and quality standards•Supporting in creation and implementation of new technology and product roadmaps, driving and fostering a culture of innovation within the team•Managing and motivating assigned internal and external resources, applying ABB's HR policies; talent management through coaching, performance feedback and providing development and career opportunities for team members•Planning capacity, people and resources for R&D projects; allocating work/tasks to team members and overseeing workload within the team•Developing and acquiring needed competencies for the development of future products and systems•Overseeing efficient, timely and superior quality project execution and ensuring financial and content supervision over projects•Supporting R&D project managers in developing project budgets and ensuring efficient use of funds
Qualifications for the roleM.Sc. or B.Sc. degree in an appropriate field of engineeringA collaborative, solutions-oriented approach with strong communication skills; good English language skills are mandatory in the positionStrong experience working in R&D in marine industry is expectedExperience managing R&D projects, including planning, budgeting, and follow-up is expectedStrong problem-solving skillsExperience in leading technical experts is appreciatedOccasional traveling is required in this role, to meet customers and suppliers
