Your role and responsibilities

Driven by global sustainability ambitions and major electrification trends, the mining industry is funda-mentally changing. We predict that electrical energy will be a key resource shaping the mine operations of the future. In ABB Process Industries Business Line Mining wants to spearhead the smart electrification landscape in mining industry, and thus is developing technological solutions and services. In this role you will lead and manage R&D projects within Business Line Mining. We execute a diverse portfolio of projects from software to power electronics systems development.As part of a global R&D team with colleagues in Brazil, Sweden, and Switzerland, you will contribute to shaping the future of mining electrification. The work model for the role is: #LI-Hybrid (This position will be located in Baden City as of March 2025).Your main responsibilities will be:• Project leadership: Lead and manage R&D projects of multi-location and cross-functional teams. Together with key stakeholders you define the goals, scope and requirements for the projects and motivate and monitor internal and/or external resources from start to successful handover to operations.• Project management: Accountable for the end-to-end planning, coordination, execution, and delivery of assigned project(s). This includes license to operate topics like cyber security and managing the stage-gate process.• Collaboration: Collaborate with steering committees, product management and receivers of project result to maximize the value of the R&D project deliverables. Manage and expand relationships with other stakeholders, internal functions, Corporate Research Centers and external relevant parties.• Process development: Execute process development activities including change management to close gaps in the R&D project execution process landscape.

Qualifications for the role

Master’s degree or higher in electrical engineering or a related field.Proven experience in leading R&D projects in a large industrial organization with demonstrated ability to manage complex topics and diverse stakeholders.Ideally, you have experience in one or several of the following areas: Power electronics system development, electrification, simulation software development, or process automation in mining.Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a multi-cultural environment.Fluent in English, knowledge of German is beneficial.
