Your role and responsibilitiesIn this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to ABB’s success with technology, software, product, and system development. Each day, you will identify and implement innovative solutions to relevant problems. You will also showcase your expertise by providing ideas and by being able to work both independently and as a part of a Research & Development (R&D) team.The work model for the role is: OnsiteYou will be mainly accountable for:• Support and lead ABB R&D projects and investigations related to manufacturing/materials bringing an innovative approach in finding cost-effective and environmentally friendly solutions• Contribute and critique new ideas, features, solutions, and evaluation strategies• Help design, and model new components and test set-ups; Help design, run, and document simulations and laboratory tests• Live ABB’s core values of safety and integrity, which means taking responsibility for your own actions while caring for your colleagues, and the business.Our team dynamics You will join a dynamic, talented, high performing team, where you will be able to thrive.
Qualifications for the roleBachelor degree PLUS minimum 3 years of industrial experience OR Masters degree PLUS minimum 1 year of industrial experience OR PhD, preferred. Degree in materials/manufacturing/industrial engineering, electrical engineering (with focus on transformers and/or electric motors preferred), mechanical engineering, physics, or similar field of study Experience with manufacturing (e.g., injection molding, compression molding, epoxy casting), materials selection (e.g., semi-conductive) polymers, insulation) preferred; 2D/3D design analysis of processes (e.g., molding in general) is a plus Lab experience is required, including design and setup of experiments Aptitude for interdisciplinary research and application-oriented solutions is also required Close collaboration with the R&D departments of ABB business and other research labs requires you to be a team player and an effective communicator with a willingness to travel (up to 10%) Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
