Your role and responsibilitiesIn this role, you will be part of the Medium Voltage (MV) Drives R&D team at our Global Competence Center in Switzerland, which is responsible for the design and development of high-power electronic frequency converter products. These technologies are tailored to operate under demanding conditions across a wide range of industries, including marine, renewable energy, oil and gas, food processing, metals, and water.The work model for the role is: hybrid #LI-hybridAs a member of the MV Drives R&D Management team, you will take on the leadership of the Hardware Design and Verification department, with a specialised focus on ABB’s MV Drives portfolio. This department includes three highly skilled R&D teams: Power Electronics & Components, Verification, and Mechanical Design. In close collaboration with the Software and Control Hardware teams in Switzerland and global R&D units, you will help facilitate the development of advanced technologies for system-critical applications.You will be mainly accountable for:•\tProviding strategic and operational leadership to internal and external resources, both directly and through team leaders and project managers, by creating a collaborative, and inclusive work culture that aligns with ABB’s values.•\tEstablishing and maintaining effective partnerships with key internal stakeholders across Swiss and global R&D units, Product Management, Service, Product Engineering, and Business Management, as well as external partners such as universities, research institutions, and standardization bodies to ensure alignment, knowledge exchange, and joint innovation.•\tPlanning and overseeing the department’s project portfolio by ensuring effective prioritization, resource allocation, and execution within defined timeframes and budgets, while diligently identifying risks, resolving bottlenecks, and maintaining accountability for project outcomes.•\tShaping and advancing development practices by continuously improving processes, tools, and quality standards, promoting innovation, and adapting to technology trends and market developments relevant to high-power electronics and frequency converter systems.
Qualifications for the roleYou hold a BSc, MSc, or PhD degree in a relevant technical field, such as electrical engineering, power electronics, or a related discipline.You have several years of leadership experience, in the field of power electronics systems, drives, or related hardware development environments.You possess effective leadership capabilities, with the ability to motivate teams, manage complexity, and enhance performance in a multidisciplinary setting.You demonstrate a solid understanding of business-related considerations and are comfortable balancing technical priorities with strategic objectives.You bring profound knowledge of hardware development processes and are familiar with quality standards, verification methods, and lifecycle management.You are a skilled communicator, able to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders across all levels of the organization.You are fluent in English, both written and spoken; German language skills are a valuable asset.
