Requirements:
Matric / Grade 12 A formal qualification – Degree in Quantity Surveying Professional Registration would be an added advantage (SACQSP / ASAQS). Minimum 5 years’ experience in a PQS environment. Knowledge and experience in WinQS and DimX. Experience in high-end residential and commercial projects. Thorough understanding of construction methods, materials, and industry standards. Proficient in taking off quantities from drawings, estimating costs, and preparing BOQs. Strong understanding of construction contracts and legal implications related to cost management. Ability to analyse complex data, identify trends, and make informed cost decisions. Excellent written and verbal communication to effectively interact with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders. Good time management and ability to cope with pressure and deadlines. Professionalism and meticulous work quality and attention to detail and accuracy.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for independently managing the cost of a construction project on behalf of the client. Ensuring the project stays within budget by accurately estimating quantities, evaluating tenders, monitoring cost fluctuations, and resolving contractual cost disputes throughout the project lifecycle. Acting as a client-side cost expert throughout the design and construction phases. Cost Planning and Budgeting: Analysing project drawings and specifications to calculate accurate cost estimates during the design stage. Preparing detailed project budgets and cash flow forecasts. Identifying potential cost risks and mitigation strategies. Tendering and Contract Administration: Preparing comprehensive tender packages including Bills of Quantities (BOQs) for contractors to bid on. Evaluating and analysing contractor bids to select the most cost-effective option. Negotiating contract terms and conditions with chosen contractors. Cost Monitoring and Reporting: Regularly tracking project expenditure against the approved budget. Identifying and addressing cost variances through value engineering and cost control measures. Producing detailed cost reports for the client, highlighting potential cost risks and opportunities. Claim Management: Assessing and evaluating contractor claims for additional costs due to unforeseen conditions or design changes. Negotiating and resolving cost disputes with contractors in a professional manner. Client Liaison: Maintaining open communication with the client, providing regular cost updates, and addressing any cost-related concerns. Advising the client on cost implications of design changes and value engineering opportunities.
