Responsibilities
The Therapeutic Apheresis Treatment Unit (TATU) is a hospital-based outpatient procedural area. Staff provide care for patients across the age continuum from neonate to geriatric. The procedures performed include donor collections and therapeutic treatments. Apheresis procedures separate whole blood into its components for collection or exchange, with the remaining components of the blood returned to the patient/donor. These procedures are critical, life-saving measures that are key components of stem cell transplants, CAR-T therapy, or health maintenance for chronic diseases. The TATU is a collaborative work setting which includes both DLMP and The Department of Nursing.
Provides division-wide oversight of the quality and efficiency of laboratory tests, products, and services. Ensures the quality system essentials are in place and that the division's quality plan is followed. Provides quality management training and education. Represents the division in all regulatory and accreditation inspections and oversees the division's proficiency testing programs. Performs internal audits, LEAN assessments, root cause analysis, error and trend analysis, etc. to identify opportunities for improvement.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in clinical/medical laboratory science (CLS/MLS), medical technology (MT), chemistry, biological science from an accredited institution or bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in addition to a certificate in MLS. In histopathology or non-testing laboratories, bachelor's degree with laboratory certification if applicable.
Four years of relevant laboratory experience; or a Master's degree from an accredited institution in chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science or medical technology and two years of relevant laboratory experience.
A HEW certificate may be substituted for the specified degree. In-depth experience of quality management concepts and regulatory and accreditation requirements.
Experience with audit or inspection process. Self-motivated, highly organized, efficient, and ability to exercise strong decision making skills. Prior experience as a quality specialist is preferred. ASCP or other certification pertinent to the laboratory field may be required depending on the laboratory specialty and prevailing regulatory requirements. ASQ certification is preferred.
