What You Will Do:
Materials Control Laboratory (MCL) Discipline Chief provides technical support to the Core MCL in the disposition and acceptability of manufactured of components for jet engines in terms of the chemical, mechanical and metallurgical requirements of the parts. Key areas of focus include properties of raw materials and other manufacturing processes, such as: heat treating, plasma spray coating, welding, inertia bonding, machining, shot peeing, plating and other manufacturing processes. This role ensures technical alignment of part and process requirements with Engineering and Quality.The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing a common proficiency across all MCL laboratories. It also includes advising and mentoring the managers, discipline chiefs while providing support for the external shop (module center) MCL labs. This role will also interact with multiple divisions within MCL, including the supplier facing organizations. Establishing and maintaining commonality of standards and effective communications between Engineering and all MCL Laboratories.Assuring that all testing and internal controls of MCL manuals are maintained and updated as necessary.Provide expert support to the MCL Core lab including chemistry, mechanical testing and metallurgical assessments.Provide leadership in the company's cultural transformation, employee development and succession planning ,and promotion of discipline health of all MCL proficiencies.Support for investigations and Manufacturing reviews.Approval of various company documents, processes and procedures.Support engineering and other organizations to develop new quality standards and testing procedures. This may include externals sources or the groups supporting the qualification of external sources.Help the laboratories maintain their EH&S and operating requirements to assure a safe and productive working environment.Utilize CORE tools to strategically improve and implement continuous improvement initiatives.Qualifications You Must Have:
BS degree in chemistry, material science, metallurgy or related technical field and minimum 12 years experience in chemical, mechanical or metallurgical testing, evaluation and documentation or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years experience Engineering/Other Technical Positions.U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.Proficient in MS Office.Qualifications We Prefer:
Quality or manufacturing background with an emphasis on manufacturing processes, materials, NDT processes, root cause investigations and corrective action.Ability to interface well with a global supply base.Ability to manage supplier oversight strategy and closure of MCL related investigations.Knowledge of aerospace manufacturing operations. Proven ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management, internal and external customers. Knowledge and experience with root cause and process control tools.
