General Function:

Oversees and supports the development, implementation, monitoring, and improvement of quality programs at all Hy-Vee food production facilities. Provides direction, guidance, and consultation to quality assurance personnel and facility management to ensure food production facilities meet and exceed Hy-Vee quality standards.

Reporting Relations:

Accountable and Reports to: Vice President, Compliance and Food Protection, or Director, Food Production Compliance and Food Protection

Coordinates with: Vice President, Food Production; Facility Compliance/QA managers and technicians

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop and support the implementation of quality control and assurance programs for each Hy-Vee food production facility, assuring alignment with SQF standardsPerform regular audits and assessments of each facility’s quality program to ensure all products manufactured by the facility meet or exceed Hy-Vee specified quality requirementsCoordination with facility compliance managers to investigate customer complaints, document findings, perform root cause of non-conformities, track trends, and develop/review corrective action/preventive action plans (CAPAs)Develop, maintain and conduct quality related training for managers and employees in all production facilitiesIdentify and evaluate opportunities for continuous improvement of quality programs and manufacturing efficiencyUse statistical process control (SPC) and/or other quality tools to identify and reduce process variation, and conduct root cause analyses to determine causes of non-conformitiesMonitor all facility specific quality key performance indicators (KPIs) and track through a monthly quality report, detailing deviations, trends, and improvement opportunities.

Education and Experience:

At least 5 years of experience in quality assurance/control in a food production environment

Technical knowledge of quality systems and assessment tools

Experience conducting audits and/or assessments in food facilities

Post-secondary degree in Food Science or natural sciences desired

HACCP and PCQI certification required

SQF Practitioner certification preferred

Physical Requirements:

Visual requirements include ability to see detail at near and far range with or without correction, normal depth perceptions.

Must be physically able to perform light work: occasionally lifting or carrying objects of no more than 20 pounds, and occasionally standing or walking for extended periods

Must be able to perform the following physical activities: stooping, kneeling, reaching, handling, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions:

The duties of this position primarily performed in food processing facilities. There will be exposure to various types of industrial and food handling equipment and processes, temperature extremes from walk-in coolers and freezers, noise, wet and dry environments, and cleaning chemical products. There will be occasional pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects in a day.

Equipment Used to Perform Job:

Standard equipment used in an office environment including telephone, copier, FAX, microfilm copier, and PC with typical Office programs. A variety of quality assurance equipment utilized to evaluate product adherence to specifications may also be utilized. Operation of company automobile (valid driver’s license required).
