Public Relations and Communications Director
Starting Salary: $72,000/yr Position Summary: The position will be responsible for developing proactive reputation management campaign strategies to elevate brand awareness and reputation, as well as diffusing negative news and/or category situations, developing reactive media statements, and mitigating risk through the development and execution of a proactive impact report. This position will also support other divisions within the agency, including Youth Services and Foster Parents, and create a monthly memo/newsletter. Working collaboratively with the CEO, the role will lead crisis response efforts for internal and external audiences, including coordinating recommendations and messaging. The position will actively participate and support the management team to ensure the quality of communications with internal and external stakeholders. Technical/Functional Expectations: Internal Communications – Essential Function: Develop and implement internal communication plans to support company initiatives, values, and culture. Manage internal communication tools and platforms, ensuring accessibility and ease of use. Crisis Communications – Essential Function: Develop and execute crisis communication plans, ensuring timely and accurate information dissemination during critical situations. Developing press releases, media statements, and internal messaging protocols. Communication Style – Essential Function: Use storytelling techniques to craft compelling narratives that resonate with employees and bring company values to life. Graphic Design – Essential Function: Design visually appealing graphics and layouts to enhance communication materials. Support HR Recruitment – Essential Function: Work collaboratively with the HR Recruiter to create materials to support external recruitment. Strong communication & presentation skills - Essential Function: Strong speaking, writing, and professional presentation skills are required to effectively and concisely share the agency's vision and mission with stakeholders and diverse audiences. Project Management - Essential Function: Manage the production and execution of the agency's external special events and community relations outreach projects, including management of event timelines, contracts, marketing, and volunteers. Community and Media Relations- Essential Function: Represent the agency at local community and service group events to develop and maintain community and media relationships. Requires time outside of regular business hours. Creative Support - Essential Function: Provide creative input for agency publications, as well as marketing materials for events and activities that advance the objectives of the organization, establish and/or maintain public/private partnerships, and build donor relations. Communication Archive - Essential Function: Maintain an archive of communications, photos, press coverage, events, and documentation to provide a continuum of events and history. Event Planning - Essential Function: This position will be responsible for planning fundraising events, community engagement events, and internal events for the family of agencies. Other duties as required: Job performance requires fulfilling other incidental or related duties as assigned, assisting and training others, and performing duties of higher-rated positions occasionally for developmental purposes. Business Experience: Strong writing, public speaking, and presentation skills: This is required to adequately convey the agency's vision, mission and purpose and successfully engage the public in our efforts. Computer skills in Microsoft programs, including PowerPoint, Website Maintenance, and Social Media: This is required to develop presentations and publications and effectively communicate with stakeholders and audiences. Knowledge of social media execution and website maintenance is a plus. Experience working with diverse groups: To successfully engage community partners, forge mutually beneficial relationships, and communicate a positive public image for the agency. Educational and Experience Requirements: Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or related field required. MS Marketing preferred. 5+ years of experience in directing not-for-profit communications is preferred. Able to work a flexible schedule to include evenings/weekends.
